Topic of Study:

Music

LESSON PLANNING
Teacher: Jaclyn Krueger

Rationale Statement:

What is your topic of study? What is your hook, why have you chosen this topic of study? The topic of this lesson is music and the different ways it can make you feel. What is the goal of this activity? What will children learn? What are the expected outcomes? The child will learn that there are different styles of music and they can make you feel differently based on what you listen to. Which Standards are met by your activity? You may use any of the following: Arizona Early Learning Standards or Arizona Common Core Standards or Infant and Toddler Guidelines. All are posted on Canvas under Modules Week 1.

Objectives:

Standards:

FA S2 C1 d- Responds to different types of music, (e.g., rock, classical, jazz, reggae, Native American chants, gospel, bluegrass, lullabies, marches and country music). FA S2 C1 e- Uses creative movement and dance to interpret the mood of various types of music and stories.

Activity:

Description of activity. Include steps for completing the activity, who will complete the activityages of children to complete activity, how long the activity takes to implement, where the activity will be completed (small or large group, center, inside vs. outside, etc.). This activity will be done inside, in a quiet center area. First the child will learn about a few different types of music such as rock and roll, classical, country, and dance, and listen to samples of each. Next the student will learn that sometimes certain feelings are associated with

!" " certain types of music. The child will then be encouraged to draw what they feel while they listen to different songs.

What materials are needed to complete the activity? Paper

Materials Needed:

Crayons Ipod Speaker How will you assess students understanding, learning, or growth from this activity?

Assessment:

I will assess their knowledge by seeing if their pictures changed based on the song that played. What areas of development (Language, social and emotional, cognitive, physical) are promoted by this activity? Be specific. (Refer to Creative Curriculum Developmental Continuum if needed). The social and emotional development is promoted with this activity because the child is encouraged to express how they feel, when they listen to certain types of music, through coloring. How did the plan work? Was enough planned? Too much? Did children maintain interest or go in other directions? What will you do the same if you repeat this activity? What will you do differently the next time? How can you extend this activity?

Developmental Domains:

Lesson Reflection:

I really like this activity, but I think it may be better suited for children that are a little older. The child liked listen to the different music and definitely paid attention during the beginning but once he was coloring I am not positive he connected the coloring with the music. I did notice however that even if he did it on a sub conscious level, he tended to color more slow and smooth when the slower songs played and more rough when the tempo picked up.
