! Current Staff Positions and Brief Descriptions:


We strive to be an inquiring community, a community of learners, and a community of colleagues. (Sergiovanni 149) As a staff, we believe that colleagues must help each other to be better persons, hold up standards for each other, and we must be able to count on each other for help when needed. (Sergiovanni 152) Director: Our director draws on the leadership style of David Hagstrom, principal of Denali Elementary School. She believes that we are more powerful as a unit, and acts more as a facilitator of the learning and leading process than as principal. She believes that learning together and shared virtues are what drive good leadership and instruction. Director also works directly with the administration above in order to ensure compliance with state standards. (Sergiovanni 154-164) CO-Director: The CO-Director supports the director and is acting director when Director is out of the building. The Co-Director also has extensive knowledge of special education and is responsible for compliance, and works directly with teachers and teacher assistants to help support individualized instruction and diverse learners. Counselor / Family Advocate (2 Positions): We have two counselors because of the extensiveness of their job. We include counselor visits to the classroom as a weekly part of our curriculum to provide push in support in developing the mental and social well being of our students. Counselors also run play therapy groups for students who have experienced loss, witnessed or experienced abuse or violent events, or have encountered other traumatic events in their lives (Operationbreakthrough.org). Counselors are also the rst line of support for parents and work with various community organizations and non-prots to make sure that all the needs of our families are met. Secretary: Our backbone! Responsible for daily operations of the school. School Nurse: Handles daily bumps and bruises. The nurse is also responsible for collaborating with a local college to provide free, on site, dental exams for all of our students. (OperationBreakthrough.org) Special Education Teacher (2 positions): Responsible for all individualized education plans and programming for students identied with special needs. Provides primarily push in support for students and collaborates extensively with regular education teachers. Manages teacher assistants to help ensure differentiation for diverse learners.

We believe in mixed age and ability grouping.
Pre-K / K level teachers (3): Collaborate with occupational therapists, music therapists, and speech language pathologists to meet all the needs of students. Complete daily individual, small group, and whole group lesson plans that promote learning through play based experiences. (See Teacher Job Description Document) Grades 1-2 Level Teachers (3): (See Teacher Job Description Document) Grades 3-4 Level Teachers (3): (See Teacher Job Description Document) Teacher Assistants (11 total positions): Collaborate with grade level teachers and special education teachers to provide support for all learners. Will be asked to teach small groups. One assistant provided for every classroom, as well as two extra assistants oating to use on a need basis for students with more intense needs. Music Teacher: Provide weekly lessons to students in every grade. Provide music therapy groups for pre-k and K groups on a weekly basis. Art Teacher: Provide weekly lessons to students in every grade. Provide art therapy groups for students weekly on an as-needed basis. Collaborate with occupational and physical therapists to include techniques in lessons. Include teamwork and collaboration in activities rather than competition. Computer Teacher: Expose students to the basics of computer literacy, eventually moving towards computer programming. Include cyber bullying prevention curriculum as a part of instruction and incorporate online ethics. Librarian: Provide weekly opportunities for students to listen to stories, check out books. Provide students with access to electronic materials (Librarysciencedegree.usc.edu). Ensure that all students are having access to the same materials. Collaborate with teachers to assist with lessons (creating online documents, the use of ashdrives, etc.) (http:// librarysciencedegree.usc.edu/digital-librarian/) Speech/Language Pathologist: Provide speech and language services to students as a part of their Individualized Education Program. Provide push in support and weekly language groups for Pre-k / Kindergarten class.

Staff Available Part Time and On Consult:

Occupational Therapist: Provides therapy for students requiring it on their Individualized Education Plan throughout all grades. The occupational therapist also has weekly motor groups for all Pre-School and Kindergarten aged students.
