Title: Classroom Management Plan Date: Spring 2014 Artifact Description:

This artifact is a classroom management plan for my future high school choral classroom. This entails procedures upon entering and exiting the room, expectations for how the students are to participate, crisis procedures, and what I, the teacher, will be doing to induce this plan. This management plan also a statement of purpose that describes the whole reason for a classroom management plan.

Wisconsin Teacher Licensure Standard Alignment: This plan best aligns with standard five: Environment: Teachers know how to manage a classroom. The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
This plan best aligns with standard five because it shows that I am able to plan ahead for management in the classroom, both negative and positive. It is evidence of research and observation of many different choral classrooms and what has and hasnt worked. I was able to use a template from a website and insert my own ideas in my words. This management plan required mostly reflection and contemplation on what would work best for the classroom and how I will make it different from the students previous experiences with management to help set them up for success. I am more experienced in this standard because it helped me have a more guided way to manage a classroom. A common mistake that I was making was simply improvising classroom management when I would be able to briefly be in front of students. While this worked sometimes, it will not work in the long run. With a management plan, I will implement this at the beginning of the school year and maintained standards consistently throughout the year. Having a plan without a classroom is a great way of starting to envision a future classroom. If there is no vision, there is no planning, thus there is no structure. Providing consistent structure is extremely important to the students in that it sets them up for success, which is exactly what I will do. This experience helped me envision the way Id like my classroom to be.

UW-Platteville School of Educational Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment: This experience best aligns with KSD2.b. Establishes a culture for learning. The candidate can create a classroom environment that establishes and maintains high expectations for all students to value content of course work, take pride in work by initiating improvements, and help peers This best aligns with this KSD because the guidelines provided in the classroom management plan set up an educational environment that is safe, effective, and understandable. My statement of purpose for this management plan involves myself being dedicated to establishing a classroom environment that gages all styles of learners, is exciting, and always maintains safety. By having these guidelines, many levels of learning can take place when implemented consistently. I am more competent and aware in this KSD because I was able to think of ways in which I feel students will be able to learn more effectively through the behavior guidelines provided. A large

portion of teaching is management. As I continue to work with people I am fascinated how one classroom can respond completely differently to a lesson than another classroom. This also occurs when it comes to management procedures. While the main ideas of the management plan will stay the same, small adjustments must be made to each class. By creating an imaginary classroom I developed this plan and will be able to immediately establish the culture of learning that I would like to take place. Secondary KSDs: KSD1.b. Demonstrates knowledge of students KSD 2.c Manages classroom procedures KSD 2.d Manages student behavior
Reflection:

What I learned about teaching/learning:

The more I ponder on my future classroom the more I realize how important management plays in creating an effective learning environment. Often times I find myself excelling at thinking of ideas of how to present content, but forget that when working with people, behavior will play a role in the lesson. In order for students to learn at the best of their ability, safety should not be a worry. When there is even a question of a disciplinary issue the rest of the students turn their focus towards that and the rest of the class period is disturbed tremendously. Thus, having a management plan will help me as the teacher create an environment of respect, and the students will feel safe and comfortable learning each day.

What I learned about myself as a prospective educator: I am well aware of the disadvantages that a young teacher may have when facing classroom management issues. However, with this plan I feel comfortable in my plan and ability to manage student behavior. It is my belief that the issue of classroom management can be minimized significantly by having a plan at day one, showing a genuine care for the students, and being consistent. I strive to continue to improve my approach to classroom management. This also involves the idea of showing rewards for positive behavior, as the negative consequences are often the main focus of management.
