Raingutter Regatta Rules
10/28/13 Boat Specs: 1. Boats must be made from the official BSA Raingutter Regatta Trimaran Boat Kit. All parts (2 outriggers, polymer hull, mast, sail, and scre!s" pro#ided in the $it must be used in the boat construction. (%& substitutions are allo!ed". 2. &utriggers'(ull) The &utriggers must be no longer than *+ or shorter than ,-1'2 .. The finished boat must be /-1' + !ide (the dimension of the molded hull." The outriggers should be cut on the leading edge as sho!n in the instructions. &ne may not be placed ahead of the other. /. 0ast) (eight limit is ,+ (minimum" to *+ (ma1imum" from dec$ to top. 0ast may not be e1tended, but may be decorated. The mast hole is molded into the top of the plastic hull and is the only placement allo!ed for the mast. %o de#iations !ill be allo!ed and no modifications to the hole are allo!ed. 2ouble chec$ mast height before gluing it into the preformed hole. . Sail) The supplied sail must be used. 3t may be trimmed but not enlarged or added to (e1cept for decorations". The sail may only be attached to the mast by glue and'or tape. %o mechanical fasteners !ill be allo!ed and the sail may not be in contact !ith any part of the boat e1cept the mast. 4. 2ecorations) 2ecorations may be added, and must be firmly fastened to the boat. %o decorations may be placed in such a manner as to e1ceed the boat dimensions (height, length, !idth". 3t is recommended that the boat be painted (do not use !ater soluble paints" or sealed to pre#ent the outriggers from retaining !ater. ,. Build a ne! boat (Boats from pre#ious years !ill not be permitted". Races: 1. 5ach den !ill race a single elimination race. 1 st and 2nd place trophies !ill be a!arded. 2. The 6ac$ races !ill be a double elimination (you must lose t!ice to be out". 1 st, 2nd, /rd and th place trophies !ill be a!arded. Race Rules: 1. Sha$e hands before and after e#ery race. 2. Sho! good sportsmanship. /. Boys, !hen called to race, place boat in gutter and place one hand in front of their sail holding the boat bac$ against the end of the gutter, and get ready to blo! on the !ord 78&7 from the starting 9udges. . Scouts may not touch the boat after once they start a race. 3f a boat capsi:es or becomes stuc$, the participant may only correct the issue by blo!ing (they cannot tough the boat unless instructed by the race official". 4. The first boat to impact the end of the raingutter !ith its nose !ill be considered the !inner of that heat. The finish line official !ill ha#e the final and &%;< say in determining the !inner of that heat. 3f the finish line official determines the race to ha#e finished in a tie, that heat !ill be immediately re-run. ,. 3f a boat becomes damaged, and upon the official=s permission, the Scout may be allotted a short span of time to ma$e (reasonable" repair to the boat before the ne1t race.
