Shianna Brown Standard Reflections INTASC Standard Assignment 1 Learner Development The teacher understands Learning Styles how

ow learners grow and develop, recognizing that Paper patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences. Course 213

I chose the learning style paper I wrote for the best representation of INTASC because this whole paper has to do with how the teacher I was observing understood how her students learned and developed. This paper also talks about how important it is for teachers to see and know the different learning styles. What I learned from doing the learning styles paper is that you can have more than just one learning style. I also learned what the different learning styles are: active learners, intuitive learners, visual learners, and sequential learners. 2 Learning Differences The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards. Differentiation Lesson Plan 218

Reflection: This paper made me learn a lot about what teachers have to do on a daily basis for their students. It also taught me how time consuming being a teacher really is. This paper went in depths on how to change a lesson to fit the needs of a child who is ESL, TAG, and students with physical limitations. Its important as a teacher to remember that a lesson that might work for a majority of the class wont work for a few of your students. You will never have a 100% of the class at the same level. Every student is different and their learning styles are

different as a teacher you have to be prepared to handle every learning need. Writing this paper and trying to change my original lesson to fit the need of a student who was below grade average was super challenging. There are so many different ways that you can change a lesson to make it more appealing but rewording it in a way where the student who is below average can understand its really challenging. End the end I found some different ways to make sure the student understood the lesson. I found out that one on one with the student really helps the student because the student felt more comfortable asking questions. Sometimes a little one on one can solve many problems!

3 Learning Environments The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

Classroom Management Paper

218

Reflection: Classroom management is a huge part of being a teacher. If a teacher doesnt have good time management then the class will end up falling apart. Classroom management isnt just about how to manage the students but its also about how to measure time management, behavioral issues, health issues, and learning management. Management isnt always about having power but its about having enough control over your students to the point where they will catch on to what is being taught in the time being allotted. I learned a lot about classroom management when I was in my observation classroom. I learned that not all days will be days with perfect time management, an example of why is because there could be an assembly that cuts the class periods short and there isnt enough time to do the lesson you planned. Like I told you in the beginning of this paragraph, that classroom management is a huge part of being a teacher but so is being flexible.

4 Content Knowledge The teacher understands Standards/Ben the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures chmark of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.

Course 213

Reflection: I learned so much from this assignment! From this assignment I learned how to look up standards from Iowa Core and apply them to the lesson of which is being taught. I actually taught that the school created the standards for the teachers to follow but thats actually not true at all. Iowa Core helps teachers build lessons using the standards that Iowa has set for their students to learn. I did find this assignment to be a little challenging though! It was challenging because you really have to search for the right standard that goes along with whats being taught. I had trouble finding the right standard because multiple standards fit was I was doing a lesson over.

5 Application of Content The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problemsolving related to authentic local and global issues.

Lesson Plan and Reflection

218

Reflection: My first lesson that I did with my students had its ups and downs. This lesson was over contractions. I think the reason why it didnt go so well is because the students thought of me more as a helper than a teacher. With the help of my practicum teacher I finally got the students to settle down and listen to me! Once I gave my students the anticipatory set they were hooked. I think one thing I could work on is to start carrying myself as a teacher instead of a helper. Things that went well Students responded to the activities Students understood the lesson and show it during the independent practice Students participated in group discussions

Overall the lesson went fairly well! I definitely improved the second lesson I taught infront of my DMACC Professor.

6 Assessment The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teachers and learners decision making.

Assessment Paper

218

Reflection: I learned a lot from this assignment as well. This assignment helped me to break down assessments. It also gave me a new perspective on why teachers give students so many tests. This assignment I could have spent more time working on my grammar and making connections better. I did well on identifying what the purpose of the assessment paper.

7 Planning for Instruction The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.

Lesson Plan and Reflection

218

Reflection: This lesson went so much better than the first one! This lesson was over suffixes. For this lesson I was more prepared. I had my lesson planned out and materials ready to go before the class even started. I think one of the reasons why this lesson went better was the fact that I was a lot more prepared than the first time I taught my class. The students gave me positive feedback and I feel like the lesson flowed easily into every task. I do need to work on disciplining better (ex. Talking when Im talking). I really enjoy teaching and teaching these lessons make me even more excited to become a teacher!

8 Instructional Strategies The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

Group Lesson Plan

213

Reflection: There are many different learning styles and by being a teacher you should use all the different kinds of learning styles in your lessons. Not every student is a visual student. Not all students are listeners and not all students can work in groups for group projects. Its important as a teacher never to get in the

habit of only using just one learning style especially if the students are in a group setting. It is important though that the students work hard to ne be able to learn using the learning styles that might not be their dominant to them.

9 Professional Learning and Ethical Practice The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others, and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.

Journals from Field Experiences

213

I chose to use the journal entries I wrote while at my field experience because it shows how the teacher actually engages with her students. Another reason why I chose to use this as my representation of INTASC is because this paper shows how teachers adapt to their surroundings and the level of class they have. I learned that there is a huge difference between elementary level teachers and high school teachers. Teachers have to make adaptions everyday while teaching, it was nice getting to see firsthand how the teachers I had my field experience with changed and adapted to their classrooms and students.

10 Leadership and Collaboration The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.

Parent Letter

218

Reflection: Writing the letter to the parents of my students was a really tough challenge for me. I wanted to write an informative letter without it being so formal or something that made me look unprofessional. I feel like finding that happy medium was the hardest part. I really need to work on making sure my grammar is correct.
