The Lhasa Trilogy is a tale which spans multiple decades and two continents. Matthew Johnston at the end of his life has but one final goal, which can only be fulfilled through the mysteries of Tibetan Buddhism. Matthew is a man raised in a fundamentalist Christian family in rural Oklahoma, but after a series of tragic experiences in his life, has lost any shred of spirituality. His only hope of fulfilling his one last ambition, a way of redeeming his life, is pinned to Lama Tenzin Tashi, a Buddhist monk in Tibet. Gary Conrad uses richly-textured flashbacks of the early lives of these two men in rural Oklahoma and rural Tibet to weave the story of The Lhasa Trilogy, as Matthew's ambition becomes Tenzin's final life effort as well. Highly recommended.
