Set Induction, IA, Intro, Activity, TBI, ITV Instant Activity: Warm Ups Students begin warm ups immediately upon entering the main gym. Bellefonte elementarys warm ups consist of 4 stations, each with their own set of exercises. Set Induction Today we will be quickly going over offensive and defensive strategies before putting your skills to the test in a small game. You all did very well last time around so I have faith that you will do well with the game! Intro: Players 4 groups of 6. Each team will consist of 3 offensive players and 3 defensive players. One of the defensive players will be playing goalie. Remember to alternate each round so every person gets a chance to do everything. Goalie: may use any part of their stick or body to stop the puck. The goalie may leave the crease (area inside the poly spots) but no other players are allowed inside (or it is a penalty). Defensemen: primary job is to defend against opposing attackers. Defensemen

D D D G Remind students that breaking safety rules of the FH lesson results in a penalty and possible removal from play. Assess a penalty for breaking any of the safety rules.

Blade stays below the knee and puck should not rise above ankle.

may not cross onto the half of the court opposite their goalie. Offense: primary job is to score goals. Offense may not cross onto the half of the court their defensemen are on. ITV: Captain: plays offense and defense and may move anywhere on the court (except creases) Offense While on the attack, you should look to pass to players who have found open space. Conversely, if you are looking to receive a pass, move to an open area where you are not instantly defended. The puck should be moved down court for a shot on goal. Patience and puck control are key for offensive success! Defense While on defense, you should think about having an active stick and active feet. Active feet means you are constantly moving yourself between your goalie and the puck. An active, moving (and flat) blade will increase your ability to block shots and cause turnovers.

Visual and verbal checks for understanding.

Activity: 3 v 3 In groups of 6, designate 3 defensemen and 3 offensive players (one of the defensemen will be playing goalie). The offense will be trying to score as the goalie and defensemen attempt to prevent it. Once there are 3 goals or 3 saves/turnovers, switch roles. Make sure goalies rotate when it is your turn to be a defenseman. After a few rounds, 3 of your 6 group members will rotate one goal to the right. Repeat. Closure: Review/Preview Describe some offensive strategies we went over. What worked well for your team in 3 v 3? Describe some defensive strategies we went over. Spread goals far enough apart that there is adequate space between games.

Students will help to call their own penalties. Monitor this and have final say in all disputes. Verbal and visual check for understanding.
