GRADE 6 Net Wall Games You will be assessed in the following areas: Criterion A Use of knowledge Criterion D Social

al skills and personal engagement Assessment Task You are required to read and answer the following questions on badminton Please take your time to answer each question with careful explanation showing your knowledge. _________________________________________________________________ Criterion A Use of knowledge Serving 1. When serving in badminton name one of the serves that you may use? I will use low serve, which I can make opponent lift up shuttlecock.

2. Explain a reason why you would use this serve? I will use this serve when I want to attack. Because if I do low serve, oppeonent will hit shuttlecock higher, so I can get opportunity to smash the shuttlecock. Also I will use this serve when I feel my opponents attack is strong. The reason why I will use is that if I keep shuttlecock low, opponent will have less opportunity to attack.

3. Using the keywords label the 4 different serves below on the diagram below.

HIGH SERVE

LOW SERVE

FLICK SERVE

DRIVE SERVE

1.High serve 2.Flick serve 3.Drive serve 4.Low serve 4. When does the service change to the opposite player? Let say we served and lose the serve, then the opponent will serve for two terms. If we win the serve, keep going. 5. How many points do you play up too in Badminton? There are 2 scoring systems. One is 21 points system, and the other one is 15 points system. The 21 points system started in the Thomas/ Uber cup 2006.We play best of 3 games, and we have get 21 points to win. If both teams got 20, the team, which gains 2 points first and leads, wins that game. If both team got 29, the team, which get 30 points first, wins. Who ever reaches 11 points players get a 60 seconds break. The 15 points system, which is original system, is almost same as 21points system. This system has 2 different kinds. One is for women, and one is for men. For men, they play 3 of best games, and whoever gets 15 wins. For women, they play 3 of best games, and whoever gets 11 wins. If both teams get 14(for women 10), whoever scored 14(10) first gets choice to continue the game to 15(11) points, or set the game to 17(13) points. 6. How many points do you need to win by? For 21 points system, team who gets 21 first wins. But, if both teams get 20, team, which gains 2 points first, and leads, wins that game. If both teams get 29, the team, which gets 30 first, wins the

game. For 15 points system, team who gets 15(for women 11) wins the game. But if both teams get 14(10), whoever scored 14(10) gets choice to continue the game to 15(11) or set the game to 17(13 points) You can change ends when the leading score is 6 in 11 points game (women) 8 in a 15 points system men) 7. If your score is 8 points and it is your turn to serve, what box would you serve from right or left? Right Explain your answer why? Because 8 is even number and the rule is when you, or your opponent scored even number that game, you serve from right service court.

8. Which of the statements below is true for a doubles badminton game? The answer is C if A means passing shuttle each other (same team) and returning it. A. Both partners need to hit the shuttle before returning it. B. You may only play the shuttle on one side of the court. C. None of the above D. All of the above

9. The shuttle is considered out of bounds when: Answer: C A. It touches the sideline B. It touches the endline C. Hits the ground entirely beyond (outside) the boundary lines D. All of the above

10.What happens if you hit the shuttle into the net on your service? If the shuttle hits the net and goes over, the game continues. But, if it is serve, its fault. Also if you hit the net and shuttle doesnt go over, its fault. 11. Which stroke is represented in the diagram below? Answer: A A. overhead clear B. underhand clear

C. short service D. long service E. smash

12. Describe how you should stand when playing the above shot, you may use diagrams to explain your answer. There are 3 different kinds of overhead clears. Forehand, backhand, and around the head clear. If youre doing forehand overhead clear, turn your body and stand sideways to the net with your nonracket shoulder facing the net, and shift your weight on to your back foot. Also when youre hitting, move back to your base position. If youre doing backhand overhead clear, turn your body so that your back is facing the net, and lead and shift your weight to your foot. Also when youre hitting, push your body back to your base position. If youre doing around the head clear, stand squarely to the net, and shift your weight to side where you dont hold the racket. Also push your body to base position.

13. From the picture above, state which shot this is in badminton and give one teaching point concerning how you can successfully perform this shot.

You have to get behind the shuttle as early as possible, make sure that your opponent is off-guard. Also enable you to inject more power into your smash, and create a steeper angle for your smash

14. In the diagram of a badminton court below: Mark and label the doubles sideline Mark and label the singles sideline Shade one doubles service receiving area (where the shuttle can land). On Service only!

15. In a doubles match AB vs. CD (see diagram below), team AB have just won the point to regain the serve and make the score 2-1 to them: Which player would take the service? A A B C D Assume team AB wins the next rally. What is the score now? 3-1
Net

Who serves next? A A

B C D

16.From the two pictures above, state which shot it is and describe the difference in the follow through between these two techniques: Picture 1 seems like net shot, and picture 2 seems like lob shot. I cant really tell what is it because I cant see the whole picture clearly, but I think they are net shot, and lob shot. The difference between these two techniques is that lob shot forces the opponent to back track to the back of the

court to hit the shuttle cock before it falls down which would make him or her lose a point. But, purpose of net shot is to move opponent near net.

17. Why is it important in tennis and badminton or any netwall games to keep the ball/shuttle away from the middle of your opponents court? You have to keep the ball or shuttle away from the middle of your opponents court. The reasons are that middle of the court is best place to smash. Also your opponent can move quickly to middle of the court from wherever he or she was. So if you want to score, then you have to avoid middle of opponents court. 18. After hitting a ball/shuttle in a tennis or badminton game where on your court should you try to return and why?

If you used shot that makes ball, or shuttle goes to end of court, you should go near the net. But, if you used shot that makes ball, or shuttle goes near the net, go to your base position. Most of the time, you have to go to your base position after you hit the ball or shuttle. The best position for base position is the middle of your court. If you stand there, wherever the ball or shuttle falls, you can go quickly.
