B7-0333/2014 Motion for a European Parliament resolution on counterfeit goods traded online The European Parliament, A. B. having regard to Rule 120 of its Rules of Procedure, whereas the French customs authorities have recently published official statistics regarding the confiscation of counterfeit goods traded online; whereas the statistics show a massive increase in the number of items confiscated, from 75 000 in 2006 to over one million in 2009; whereas counterfeiters are obviously using online trade as a Trojan horse to introduce large quantities of counterfeit goods on the internal market; Urges the Commission to shield consumers from fraud and provide suitable instruments to protect businesses, given that not only brand labels but also the Community trademark are frequently imitated by counterfeiters.
