Final E-Portfolio Reflection Marisa Maldonado April 29, 2014 English 1010-060 M.

Harding Burgoyne How This English 1010 Class Help Me Realize the True Meaning of Education When I began this class, we were assigned to write two Summaries. I was very intimidated at first. Not only with these two difficult papers but the students and our professor. English is not my strongest point and I was afraid of failure. I told myself that I will just take each essay at a time, which is exactly what I did. The first summary paper I completed was the summary on the David Zinzenkos article titled Dont Blame the Eater. When I first started writing my paper, I found it very difficult to summarize without my opinion. The main focus that I pointed my attention toward was not using I. Thought out all the backspacing, I finally finished my first summary. Going back and reading it, wow I made a lot of errors both grammatically and structurally. It was a rough paper that is for sure, but I wouldnt have gotten to where I am today if I didnt write that paper. It really helped with summarizing my different resources and helped tying them into my Position Synthesis and they supported my idea of Education. My second Summary-Response improved a little bit. It was much easier to write because I could actually incorporate my own voice and opinion. It helped a lot with my position synthesis because that is mainly what the whole paper is, with a little bit of spice added to it. These papers both added to my final paper, now I can see why we were writing them.

I actually think I learned the most from the Annotated Bibliography than any of the other papers. It actually got me to do a lot of research that will be helpful through the rest of my life. Not only did I learn a lot about the educational struggles, I learned a lot about how to research and what information is helpful and what I can skim over. This paper actually contributed a lot of information toward my Position Synthesis paper and was the background to what was written in my final. Yes, it was a very long paper and was the most work, is all worked out in the end and my future knowledge. I cannot express my appreciation with my instructors feedback, checklists, and handouts. They were so helpful with writing my papers and my learning in this class. I have never had a college professor that has cared so much about her students and cared about their success. With going into the educational field, I will forever look up to my English 1010 professor with her organization and passion about education. I used every single hand out and made continuous notes on each of them to help me through this semester. With such a positive instructor and her positive feedback, she is the reason my eyes opened up to a whole new positive world of education. I learned so much about life in this class. I made the decision to go into education before last fall semester, how could I go into education with the struggle of education myself. Then entering this English 1010 class, I realized why I wanted to teach. I learned the actual meaning of education and received the motivation from my professor and other students to keep continuing and keep feeding my mind with knowledge. I will forever remember this English 1010 class and always remember

the motivation it gave me. Though I sat in silence, my mind was focused and was opened up to a brighter, more driven world of education.
