UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA: This lesson plan is a part of a unit discussing endangered species. LESSON OBJECTIVE: Using the Internet, the student will classify animals as endangered, threatened, thriving, and extinct to the best of their abilities. The student will be creating a picture chart, as instructed, using the Internet to find information and a free clipart site to get pictures for their charts. STANDARDS ADDRESSED:

GLE 0307.5.2 Classify organisms as thriving, threatened, endangered, or extinct. ISTE Standard: Select and apply digital tools to collect, organize, and analyze data to evaluate theories or test hypotheses.

MATERIALS: -PowerPoint
-Laptop -Microsoft Word -Internet Access -Microsoft Clipart site With the help of technology, the student will be able to create a word document that depicts/lists species that are identified as endangered, thriving, threatened, and extinct.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE: The key concepts for this lesson are for students to be able to identify and classify animal species. Vocabulary: endangered, thriving, extinct, threatened, species, and animals. This lesson will build on further science lessons that deal with animal species. Students will be able to create and design future Word documents with little to no assistance. The lesson will be modified for students who have IEPs or need extra assistance. PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE: Introduction: At the beginning of class I will show a PowerPoint presentation showing the students how to complete the task I am asking them to complete. This presentation will show the students exactly how they can customize and design their projects in a Word document. Procedures: -Introductory PowerPoint (5 Minutes) -Pass out laptops for each student (5 Minutes) -Pass out worksheet (1 Minute) -Instruct students to begin lesson (1Minute) -Students will find material (20 Minutes)

-Students will design their Word document (30 Minutes) -For students that need extra assistance, I will be walking around the room to help or will assign them to work with another student to complete the activity. Also, if a student finishes early, they can complete the extra worksheet that was handed out at the beginning of the lesson. -If students have questions, I will be walking around the room to appropriately answer questions and distribute help as needed. Closure: At the end of the lesson, I will be printing off each students chart, which will be discussed and displayed at the end of class. The students will also be turning in the worksheet that they were instructed to complete upon viewing each website.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE: The student will be graded on whether or not they found and placed the correct animals in their correct spot on a Word document. I will be using a rubric to assess what the students completed, which is included in a separate document. The goal of this lesson is to let students do their own research to be able to identify species correctly. The use of technology makes this goal more easily accomplishable because the students can easily design their own project. MODIFICATIONS: I am aware that modifications will be made for students who did not master the objectives and for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of this particular lesson.
