1. First I will begin by greeting the students to class. I will then do a short review on note values from the week before by singing the Note Value Song. 2. I will then ask the students if they have ever heard of the country Norway. I will then pick a student to find Norway on a map and label it. 3. We will then discuss Norway and I will give them a few facts about it so that they get an idea of what the country is like. 4. I will then have the students keep a steady beat with me as I play the piece for them. 5. I will then show them the flash cards Crescendo and Accelerando and have the students tell me what they mean. I will then define the correct answer for them once they have answered. I will tell the students to see if they can hear these qualities in the music we will listen too. 6. We will then keep a steady beat to the piece again and I will ask the students to describe what happens in the music. 7. Next, I will read the story to the students and show them the pictures to go along with the story. 8. Next I will have the students explain to me what I have just read. I will then play the piece and have the students keep a steady beat on their laps as it plays. We will discuss how the terms we learned earlier fit into this piece. 9. We will then divide the class into two groups. I will explain how the students will use the kick-ball or a guiro and make it clear how each object will and will not be used during the lesson. 10. One group will have a kick-ball bouncing routine and the other will play on guiros to the beat. 11. We will first explore the difference between playing very small or very loud. 12. As the piece begins, the guiros will play soft and use very small scrapes and will increase the volume and the size of the scrapes as the pieces goes on. 13. If we have any time left, we will incorporate the kick-balls into the lesson. Assessment I can assess the students by their performance of keeping a steady beat either with a kick-ball or a guiro.
