TPC Coordinator Observation Form Name of Intern: Tim Marshall Date of Observation: 3-11-14 Subject Matter: Domains Observed:

Classroom Environment Instruction Planning and Preparation Professionalism Observations and Comments: (Anticipatory set; teaching/instructional process; guided practice; closure; independent practice) As students entered the classroom, Tim checked in with kids asking one about getting his cast off, wrestling, discussing why the lights are on, who the observer was etc. He seemed to be connecting with the students on a personal level and they were connecting with Tim as well. Tim introduced the observer and explained how he needs to go to class as well. Tim started the SmartBoard and put up the daily activity and students answered questions. Tim checked to make sure the students knew what the meaning of synonym was. He called on students by name and moved around the classroom as he asked questions. He was positive in his response to the students answers. Students saw a slide that they had seen before and reminded Tim he laughed and said, sorry and moved on. CNN student news was provided for the students (current events). Students were attentive for the most part. Tim asked the students to get out their Get it Guide and told them to go to page 69 and 141. Tim also answered questions regarding an assignment. Tim asked for a volunteer reader. Tim supported the readers on difficult words. As the students finished reading, questions were asked by Tim and students answered. Tim repeated their answers aloud to make sure all students could hear. Tim also continued to move around the classroom and gave positive feedback as they answered. Tim got a students name wrong apologized, and the girl was not offended. Tim had a nice way of explaining the content on the poster (from the textbook). He seemed fairly confident in his teaching (students can pick up on whether confidence is present and will take advantage of a teacher who they think they can run over). Tim used nice analogies to help explain terminology/vocabulary. Tim shared personal stories that related to the lesson (swamp farm) that help related to the term fertile soil. Nice job on not assuming all students have the same understanding, background or grasp of academic language. No behavior issues were noted. Nice volume when speaking. Tim seemed prepared for this lesson. It is obvious that Tim is working to step out of his normal comfort zone to be humorous and connect with the students. Students will react and interact in a positive way when they know you are human, make mistakes, laugh, and love them for those same qualities. Students were on task and attentive during the class period. Warm and welcoming classroom environment. Tim said..oops time to go. See you tomorrow. Would have been good to watch the clock a little closer to have a smoother conclusion to the class period.reminders etc. Signature of TPC Coordinator: Shelley Balkan Signature of Intern Coach: Signature of Intern Teacher:
