I. Objectives: The children will observe, describe, and discusses properties of materials and transformation of ubstances.. o Skill: C o Domain: SKS o Element: Conceptual Knowledge of the Physical world The children will describe and discuss predictions as to how to make oobleck. o Skill: C o Domain: SKS o Element: Scientific Skills and Method The children will cooperate with others by taking turns mixing the corn starch and water. o Skill: SE o Domain: SED o Element: Social Relationships The children will develop hand dexterity through mixing the corn starch and water. o Skill: P o Domain: PD o Element: fine motor development The children will attend to language during a story. o Skill: L o Domain: LD o Element: Receptive language

II. Materials: 4 Clear bins 2 Plastic Table Cloth 4 boxes corn starch 4 glasses of water Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss Green food coloring

III. Procedure: A. Motivation I will read the book Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss to the children.

B. Steps 1. I will read the book to the children. 2. I will tell the children we are going to make Oobleck. I will ask them how they think we could make Oobleck. 3. The children will go back to their seat. The corn starch will already be in the 4 clear bins and the table cloth will be down as well. 4. The children will feel the corn starch before water is added. 5. I will ask them what it looks like, how it feels, and if they have ever felt anything like it before. 6. Each teacher will have to slowly add the green water until the desired consistency is reached. 7. The children will take turns mixing the corn starch and water. 8. Once it is all mixed the children can all play in the oobleck and watch how its consistency changes as they squeeze it and let it go. 9. I will ask the children how it looks and how it feels while they are playing with it.

IV. Conclusion: The children will wash their hands. V. Transition: The children will go to the next activity. VI. Follow-Up: 1. Mix other materials to see the consistency changes. 2. Read a different Dr. Seuss book and do an experiment with something from that book. 3. Send home the recipe for the children to make at home. 4. Make putty with the children to take home. VII. Evaluation/Assessment: 1. Were the children able to follow my verbal directions throughout the activity? 2. Did the children discuss how the consistency changed? 3. Did the children respond to and verbally share responses with their peers?
