Instead, the college has decided to minimally reduce all students hours to cover the funding that the college is losing. This way all of the current students can continue to benefit from the program. This decision was made after the federal government announced last month that there would be a 5 percent cut in funding for university and college work-study programs. As a result, the college elected to avoid having to cut 5 percent of the students enrolled in the program by reducing the hours of all student-workers. The value that our students receive in the work-study program is much greater than the reduction of funding we are facing, said Dr. Douglas Swanson, President of City College. We do not want any student to have to sacrifice their job in the program so we made sure to make that our priority. Letters informing all students enrolled in the program will be mailed out next week. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact the Department of Student-Work Study.

About City College Student Work-Study Program City College is an urban two-year institution with approximately 15,000 students. Nearly 20 percent of students participate in the federally funded Work-Study Program. The purpose of the program is for students to gain real life work experience while paying for their college fees. ###
