SHOULD SAME-SEX MARRIAGE BE LEGALIZED? Same-sex marriage also known as gay marriage is a marriage between two persons of the same biological sex or gender identity. It is currently legal in eight European countries: Belgium, Iceland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. Even though this gay marriage is not legal in some countries, people have their own rights to speak their mind whether this theory is accepted by the society or not. Thus, I personally think that society should legalize same-sex marriage because it will reduce the number of divorces that are caused by arrange marriages and same-sex marriage also shows a lower divorce rate compared to normal man-woman marriages. Even though gay marriage should be legalized, some people have different beliefs and community should focus more on changing those peoples perceptions toward same-sex marriages. Furthermore, same-sex marriage is also an easier way for same-sex couples to provide a stable home for foster kids nor destroy heterosexual marriages or even family values, however it helps society to continue living in harmony. According to Gilbert Gonzales, research on marriage and health shows that married people live happier, healthier and longer lives. Furthermore, expanding and supporting marriage for same-sex couples should allow gay and bisexual adults to live happier, healthier and longer lives. Hence, denying same-sex couples the rights to get marry is a violation of civil rights and it is a form of discrimination since marriage is a legal civil status, even normal people who got married shows higher risk of getting a divorced. It (same-sex marriage) is not a legal issue, its a civil matter and I think thats where it should stay (McGraith, 2014). Therefore, why should we not be equals based on sexual orientation? It is concluded that same-sex marriage does not harm anyone in particular, however it strengthens family values by including and welcoming same sex spouses and children into the community. In order to refute these reasons why same-sex marriages should be legalize, I think that marriage is a tie between two person who are in love with each other and it doesnt matter whether he/she are gay or straight, they should have their own rights to make up their own decisions to whom they decide to spend the rest of their lives with. Thus, the same benefits that apply to manwoman marriages should also be apply to same-sex marriages.
