We should teach them the big names in music, i.e. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, etc. We need to provide learning experiences that include performing music (on instruments and singing) and listening to and analyzing music. The basis for a music curriculum are the ten national standards. If we can engage students in these national standards, the curriculum we adhere to should be (almost) universal.
