Team dating violence is defined by the CDC
as The physical, sexual, or
psychological/emotional violence within a
dating relationship, as well as stalking. It
can occur in person or electronically and
may occur between a current or former
dating partner (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014
Understanding Teen Dating Violence).
According to the Department of Education:
1 in 3 US teens have been victims of dating violence and around
the same number report having committed dating violence
themselves

Females that have been exposed to dating violence
while in their teen years are more susceptible to
depressive symptoms, disordered eating, smoking
and frequent sexual behavior in late adolescence
(Bonomi, Anderson, Nemeth, Rivara, & Buettner, 2013, p 8).
In males being exposed to dating violence increases
their risk of disorder eating, post-traumatic stress
symptoms, anxiety and depression, suicidal ideation
and attempts, smoking, alcohol and drug use, and
diminished emotional well-being (Bonomi, et al, 2013, p
9).


House Bill 882 is intended to amend part 14
of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the
Official Code of Georgia which is the current
"Quality Basic Education Act mandated by
the State Board of Education.
The amendment is to include the "Love is Not
Abuse" curriculum to the rape prevention and
personal safety education programs for
prevention of teen dating violence.
