Soundtracks of My Life
Music, the art and science of combining tones in varying melody, harmony, etc.,
especially so as to form complete and expressive compositions. The beat of the world; full of
hope, emotion, peace, and self-realization. We are constantly surrounded by different melodies,
whether its actual music or just the sounds of our everyday lives. It touches us, moves us, and
even shapes us. For me music has always been a huge part of myself. Throughout my life my
experience with music was through my mother singing to me, playing the bells, band and choir,
and the Radio. Now a days, like writing, I use it as an extension of myself, particularly my
emotions. Certain songs specifically: The Good Life by Three Days Grace, Perfect by Pink,
Send Me a Song & You Raise Me Up both by Celtic Woman.
Ive gone through most my life believing that I am worthless, and dont belong. Everyday
Id have a motto, Ear buds in, Volume up, Ignore the World. Later though I heard a song that
literally brought me to tears, Perfect by Pink. It sort of became my theme song. A song that
whenever I had a bad day I could listen to it and feel better. The main chorus: Pretty, pretty
please, don't you ever, ever feel like you're less than perfect/ Pretty, pretty please, if you ever,
ever feel like you're nothing, you're perfect to me, made me feel a bit more confident about
myself. With the help of music I was, and still am, able stay strong when life throws obstacles
my way. Whether they are big or small. This song speaks to me saying how no matter how I am,
Im unique and perfect in my own little way. Although no one is flawless, I have learned that, in
our own little way, we are all perfect.
Not Many people get a lot of chances to start over, turn a new leaf, a blank slate. For me,
my new leaf was moving to Ohio to live with my father. My mother, at first, felt betrayed,
fighting tooth and nail to keep me there with her. After a civil war between my mother and me,
she finally was defeated and I prepared to leave. On the way to Ohio she played a song, a now
very special song. She told me, Mic I need you to listen to the lyrics. As I listened I recognized
the tune, Send Me A Song by Celtic Woman. Its lyrics were a sort of saying goodbye that my
mom just couldnt say herself.
.
Take the wave now and know that you're free,
Turn your back on the land face the sea,
Face the wind now so wild and so strong,
When you think of me,
Wave to me and send me a song.
Don't look back when you reach the new shore,
Don't forget what you're leaving me for,
Don't forget when you're missing me so,
Love must never hold,
Never hold tight but let go.
Stricken by emotion, tears flowed down her cheeks as she drove. I began to sing the rest of the
song, as if to show her that I would be fine. After that day, I was one hundred percent sure that
she would be there for me no matter what.
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.
There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
Blood is thicker than water. Family is always there for each other through thick and thin,
holding each other up. A prime example for me is my father. No matter what mistakes I make or
how much trouble I get in he always was there for me. Pushing me to succeed in my life, and
leading me on the right path. He has been the one who raised me up to more than I can be.
Through the end of my Senior year i was behind my peers. They had already began applying to
colleges and scholarships, succeeding and working hard to get what they want; I was stuck as a
child. My father, through my ares mentality, keep pushing me to grow up. Although I was
stubborn, I now am catching up to my peers.
I know that any day could be my last, all I want is a little of the good life (from The
Good Life by Three Days Grace). This lyric speaks of truth. All of us could die at any point, so
we have to make the most of our lives now. I personally live my life to the extent that I can, if I
die tomorrow I want to die happy. Everyday I dont hold back, what you see is what you get.
Music helps us live, giving us advice how to deal with our lifes obstacles. Music, like a river,
flows through us all. It plays a huge part in our lives. Everybody has their preference, whether it
is Rage or even Classical. Music is the life of the world.
