Memorial Day
Steps
1. Courageous and strong.
The reason for this holiday is to honor courageous American people. Look at your
family and friends. List those you wish to honor this holiday season. What did they
do to support their country, their family and friends or their community? Brainstorm
ways you can communicate this to others.
2. Parades.
Many communities have parades to honor their heroes, both living and dead. The
emotion that runs through the crowds as veterans pass by can be overwhelming.
Attend a parade.
3. Visiting sites.
Another activity is visiting cemeteries. Veterans will have American ags, allowing you
to visualize how many in your community honored their country. Take younger people
with you as you visit. Discuss why honoring our heroes is so important.
4. Service.
From collecting food for pantries to ag ceremonies, service should revolve around
our heroes. Find out what is happening in your community for this holiday. Can you
participate in a service project someone else is doing? If not, discuss what you might do.
5. Crafts.
If you would like to include crafted items in your holiday festivities, stick with red, white
and blue. In addition, use a lot of stars and stripes. Explore holiday crafts. You might

6. Parties and picnics.
Many families celebrate outdoors with a party or picnic. From crafted decorations
to grilled food, its great to get out after a cold winter and wet spring. Plan a party
to celebrate for Memorial Day.
7. Start a tradition.
As you celebrate the holiday, start your own family traditions.
