Learning Experience Outcomes Students will: Describe themselves sharing a couple of simple details. Learning Experience Assessments
Students will write a 50 word essay about themselves. Differentiation Approaching These students will have a hard time recalling all of the vocabulary that this activity calls for. I will provide these students with a cheat sheet that contains suggestions for vocabulary that pertains to each question. The cheat sheet will be graphically divided into five columns, each column will have one of the five questions they are supposed to answer, and vocabulary pertaining to that subject matter will be in the spaces. On-level These students will also have access to that cheat sheet if they need it; however, these students most likely will be able to recall most of the vocabulary that they need for the questions. These students will most likely have trouble forming the complete sentences verbally so I will try to encourage these students to participate when asking for people to volunteer information verbally, and even call on them when they dont raise their hands so they can get the practice they need. Beyond These students wont need the questions to guide them to share the correct information when describing themselves. They will be able to say simple sentences and thoroughly describe themselves. When these students are in pairs, I will encourage them to elaborate on one of the questions, for example, how will my future be? I will ask them to practice a more detailed and complicated conversation while the others are practicing the basics. Curriculum Integration

Five questions sheet
Sponge Activity (3-4 minutes) (activity that will be done as students enter the room to get them into the mindset of the concept to be learned) If you were to meet someone new right now, what would you want them to know? Write everything you would tell the person about yourself. IN SPANISH. Anticipatory Set (1-2 minutes) (focus question/s that will be used to get students thinking about the days lesson) Who are you?
Activating Prior Knowledge (4-5 minutes) (what information will be shared with/among students to connect to prior knowledge/experience) I would ask them to recall some things that they know how to say to describe people. They would have learned this vocabulary in their familia lesson when they were provided descriptive vocabulary. They should also know how to say how old they are and what their hobbies and interests are. As they tell me, I will write what they know on the board. I will cue them if they dont recall or arent willing to volunteer the information theyve learned by saying things like how do you say about topics weve already discussed (how do you say how old you are? Etc). Direct Instruction (10-15 minutes) (input, modeling, check for understanding) I would explain that we would be using questions to help us choose information to describe ourselves. I will provide them with the questions and each question will have a group of questions that pertains to that particular theme of questions. These are the questions and what the questions should entail: Who am I? (physical description, personality traits, female/male, age) How did I get like this? (background information: where youre from, where you live, what your family is like, etc) (I would emphasize that this section isnt literally asking how you got to be the way you are, just that it is asking about your background information) What do I like? (Interests, hobbies, likes/dislikes, favorites) Who do I do things with? (friends and family members and who you spend the majority of your time with)

How will I be in the future? (What your dreams/goals are, what you plan to be when you grow up) I will go one by one and use the questions to write a description of myself on the board. I will ask them to shout out suggestions of answers to the questions I have to answer (this could be funny/fun for them. youre funny looking! Youre old! You spend the most time with your cat! etc.) I would write a description like this: Me llamo Anna. Tengo 20 aos. Tengo pelo castao y ojos morenos. Soy delgada y de estatura mediana. Soy inteligente, divertida, y simptica. Soy de Brooklyn, pero vivo en Bayport en Long Island. Fui a Manhattan College. Tengo un padre, una madre, una hermana, y dos hermanos. Tengo treinta tos y tas y muchisimos primos. Me gusta aprender idiomas. En mi tiempo libre, me gusta escuchar msica, pasar el rato con amigas, y leer. Mi cantante favorita es Florence and the Machine y mi autor favorito es Juan Rulfo. Mis mejores amigos son Ali, Samantha, Lauren, Luke, Jake, Kathleen, y Danielle. Me gusta pasar el rato con ellos y con mi hermana, Darcy. Cundo graduo, quiero viajar mucho y, algun dia, hacerme profesora de idiomas.
Guided Practice (10 minutes) (how students will demonstrate their grasp of new learning) I would put the questions up on the board again and would call on students to answer some of them verbally, and I would make sure that all students answered in complete sentences. I would start by asking specific questions like how many brothers and sisters do you have, where are you from, what do you like to do. Then, I would ask the broad questions Who are you? How did you get that way? etc. After 8 or so students have participated, I would ask if any of the students were ready to try describing themselves using these questions. I would have them get up in front of the room and the class and I would ask them the questions together: Who are you? Then I would give them a minute or two to say a couple of sentences about who they are. Then we would say How did you get like that? and would give them a couple of minutes to share their background info, and we would ask all five questions in this way. I would repeat this process with one more volunteer. Then, I would ask them to get into partners. First, one partner would ask their partner each of the five questions and give them time in between to answer each. Then they would switch and the other partner would become the asker. I will tell them ahead of time that they will be responsible for writing a couple of facts about their partner. During this time, I will walk around and monitor that theyre speaking in complete sentence and staying on task.
Closure (4-5 minutes) (action/statement by teacher designed to bring lesson presentation to an appropriate close) After a few minutes of partner work, I would ask them to get back to their seats. I would ask them to write five facts (preferably one fact per each of the five questions) that they learned about their partner in complete sentences. I would collect this as an exit slip. Independent Practice (what students will do to reinforce learning of the lesson) Students will be expected to write a 50-75 word composition describing themselves using the 5 questions as a guide as to what kind of information they can include.
