$lasses "eet once a week in the library' and every class receives the sa"e lesson each week. %his week
was about the -"arter *alance testing. -tudents are also allowed ti"e to check out and read in the
library during their weekly visit.

2ne thing I certainly wasn6t used to was pulling books for a teacher. $arole told "e that I teacher
wanted to do a unit of caterpillars' butterflies' and "oths' and that I was to asse"ble a bibliography for
the teacher to pull fro". I had to create a list fro" the catalog' and then pull the books fro" the shelves
and check the" out for the teachers.

/uring "y ti"e at a(son' I spoke to $arole about redesigning the a(son library website' and offered to
create a "ockup for her to view. 2n the last day of "y practicu" with her' presented the website "ockup'
found at http8//pa(sonlibrary.weebly.co" and I got her feedback on what she liked/disliked about the
website.

I learned about internet access and security in schools.
I was given the opportunity to speak with 04-6s co"puter technician' and I was able to ask hi"
various 9uestion about internet security in schools. I6" not so "uch interesting in keeping things out of
school co"puters' such as virus6s and other things like that+ I have a good handle on that' I "ostly
wanted to learn about how students were kept fro" students. I learned about internet security databases
that update against pro(ies and the like+ the "ost co""on way that students get around school blocks.
%his was very helpful' since there are sites that are blocked for content reasons' and students are always
finding ways around the blocks.

OUTCOME -4: $reated and presented a literacy/research lesson for students.
I was given the task by #illian at -entinel to create two lessons about the research databases that 4$- has. I
was to use Global Issues in $onte(t' and )*$ $lio to show students how databases can be used for research
purposes. I found that the two databases were very interesting to teach about' since they both dealt in different
sub!ects and were a lot "ore focused than the usual databases that students use+ assu"ing "ost really use
the" at all "ost of the ti"e.
I created a lesson plan for these lessons' and placed in it "y portfolio.

*egan Initial scan and inventory of fiction section.
%aught lesson on new books.
Learn about general library operations/cataloging

I began scanning the books for the initial fiction inventory. %he Non3.iction had already been inventoried by
the ti"e I arrived' so all that was left was the fiction. 2n top of that' I was infor"ed I would be teaching a
lesson to the classes that day about analy7ing books' as well as a pri"er on genres and new books in the
library. %his was out of nowhere' so I basically had to hit the ground running. %his was a new e(perience for
"e' and I certainly didn6t do too well with the first class. )fter that though' the classes beca"e easier now that
I so"e sort of plan in place.
I retroactively created a lesson plan for this lesson' which I placed in "y portfolio for future use.

2nce we co"pleted the general inventory of fiction' I was then taught how to print a report to check for
previously/never inventoried ite"s that "ay have gone "issing or I "ay have "issed while scanning. It was
actually 9uite an e(tensive list+ totaling around :; pages. 2ddly' enough' "ost of this list were books that
were nowhere to be found' although I did find a few "issed books. )fter those "issed books were entered into
the database' we printed a new list' and began the process again.
I also spoke to Gretchen about the upco"ing IR day for 4$-. I won6t be able to attend the library
portion of the staff develop"ent due to a %heatre -taff "eeting' so I spoke to Gretchen about what sort
of things go on. Given I a" to create a staff lesson on 5"erging technology' and I learned that iads
are beco"ing "ore of a presence in schools' I decided to co"e up with a staff pri"er on iads in
classroo"s.
