Cook’s - First Grade News

Nov. 9 – Nov. 13, 2009

This week we’ll read Rich Gets Big, A Butterfly Grows, and Caterpillars.
Please listen to your child read each day. As you listen to your child read,
see if he/she can retell the story. Have him or her tell you what happened at
the beginning, in the middle, and then at the end of the story. Also, please
help your child study the sight words.
NOTE: WE WILL BE OUT OF SCHOOL on WEDNESDAY for VETERANS DAY.
Tonight there will be a Dinner at Cowart from Nacho Blanco. The cost is $5.00
adult and $3.00 child. It will be from 5:00 – 6:15 p.m. Then, at 6:30 there will
be a short PTO meeting and a Veteran’s Day Program by the 2nd graders.

Reading Homework for the Week

Monday – read Rich Gets Big pg 16-23, do Day 1 homework, and
study all of the sight words (The new sight words will be sent home
on Tuesday.)
Tuesday – read A Butterfly Grows pg 28-43, read Words to Know
pgs 26-27, do Day 2 homework & review sight words.

Wednesday – read A Butterfly Grows pg 28-43, do Day 3

homework, & study the sight words.
Thursday – read Rich Gets Big and A Butterfly Grows. Read
about the author/photographer on pg. 45 and the poem Caterpillars
on pg 46, & do Day 4 homework and spelling Triangles.
(Phonics Skill in the stories is ch and tch)

Math Homework
We’re still studying basic addition and subtraction facts. Also, continue to help your child
practice counting by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.
