Producers (green plants) and consumers live together in what are known as (1)
TROPHIC LEVELS:
The (2) FIRST TROPHIC LEVEL contains always the producers (or (3)
AUTOROPHS).
The (4) SECOND TROPHIC LEVEL contains the (5) PRIMARY CONSUMERS (6)
HERBIVORES or sometimes omnivores.
The THIRD and FOURTH TROPHIC LEVELS will be consumers too, but they may
be (7) OMNIVORES or (8) CARNIVORES.
The final trophic level is usually where is found the carnivorous (9)
PREDATORS.
Some organisms eat dead material, to obtain their energy. They are known as
(10) SCAVENGERS.
And a further group of organisms, like fungi and bacteria, are known as (11)
DECOMPOSERS. These get their food and energy by decaying living or dead
material.
Trophic levels: These levels are stages where the food chains take place, the
first one in the levels are the producers, then at the bottom are the primary
consumers, then the secondary consumers and then the tertiary consumers.
First trophic level: these are the producers which involves any plant.
Autotrophs: Organisms which can make nutritive organic molecules from
inorganic sources. These includes in the process of photosynthesis and
chemosynthesis
Second trophic level: these level includes the primary consumers which are the
herbivores at the bottom of the producers.
Primary consumers: Organism that feeds themselves with autotrophs (plants)
and also with decaying matter
Herbivores: Animal that feeds with herbaceous vegetation, such as grass and
other plants
Third trophic level: these level includes the secondary consumer which are
carnivores that eat herbivores
Fourth trophic level: these level includes the tertiary consumer which are
carnivores that eat carnivores
Carnivores: an animal and plant that only feeds themselves with animal tissue
by scavenging or predation
Predators: Organisms which preys upon other organisms
Scavengers: Animals that eat the remains of other predators preys, or looking
for food in trash.
Decomposers: is an organisms which breaks down and then it becomes dead
organisms into nutrients
