drawing of a mechanical object, focusing on two elements line, tone, colour etc. No. of Lessons: 12 Total Time: 8 hours Group: 4 th Year No. of Pupils: 15 Aims: By the end of the scheme students will achieve: Two detailed drawings of a mechanical object, focusing on line and another element of their choice for example tone, colour etc. depending on the object. A close up study of an interesting part of the object.
Overall Learning Outcomes for the Scheme: By the end of the scheme students will learn: How to observe an object without using methods of measurements. How to achieve a close up study of an interesting part of the object using a view finder.
Investigating/Exploring/Creating (include illustrations, especially your own work): Investigating: Take time to observe the object. Ask questions such as: What am I looking at? What angle or position is it in? Is it foreshortened? Is it flat? Is there depth? Be mindful of: Scale. Space, proportion. Eg, what size is this part of the object as opposed to this other part? Do they match up on the page as they do in real life?
ICT: Presentations of demonstrations will be displayed on the interactive board in order to aid the students throughout this scheme. Key words/phrases: Key words: Observe. Scale. Shape. Angle. Foreshortened. Flat. Depth. Proportion. Mistakes. Line. Tone. Texture. Colour. Practice. Re-evaluate. Phrases: It is not about measurement it is about looking and observing. Do not be afraid to make mistakes. Every so often take a moment to step back and take a look at your object and your drawing and study it. Seek what needs to be improved. Re-evaluate. Practice makes perfect.
Teaching/Learning Strategies: Students will do preparatory work (quick sketches around the page) before starting their actual drawing. This will help them ease into drawing and adjusting to the task of observing an object properly. Students will take breaks during the lessons in order to monitor their drawing and observing skills. This will help them see what they are progressing and what they need to improve on.
Materials: Two A2 sheets of paper. HB, 2B and 5B pencils. Eraser. Watercolour pencils and pastels. Small paintbrush. Objects and Wooden Boxes.
Safety Precaution: Handle mechanical objects with care while placing them in position for drawing. Wash hands with soap and water after handling objects.
Differentiation:
Timeline/Sequence of Lessons: Week One: Focusing on the practice of observing the object in line. Week Two: Focusing on another element, eg tone or colour. Week Three: Focusing on a close-up study of an interesting part of the object. Assessment Rubric:
