Government
A change in, or addition, to a law or the constitution.
Here are four possible ways to add an amendment to
the Constitution:
1
st
method an amendment may be proposed by a 2/3 vote in each house
of Congress and be ratified by s of the State legislatures.
2
nd
method- an amendment may be proposed by Congress and then
ratified by conventions, called for that purpose, in s of the States.
3
rd
method an amendment may be proposed by a national convention,
called by Congress at the request of 2/3s of the State legislatures.
4
th
method an amendment may be proposed by a national convention
and ratified by conventions in s of the States.
Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof; or abridging the
freedom of speech, or of the press; or
the right of the people peaceably to
assemble, and to petition the
Government for a redress of
grievances.
When I was younger, I attended a small
private school where I was taught
traditional Christian values. I was
enrolled there from K4 through 8
th

grade. By the time I completed my 8
th

grade year I had read the entire Bible
and was well versed in scripture.
However, I did not personally believe in
what I had been taught. I choose to
believe in a higher spirit.
Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof; or abridging the
freedom of speech, or of the press; or
the right of the people peaceably to
assemble, and to petition the
Government for a redress of
grievances.
Earlier in the year, I chose to participate
in a protest at the Texas Capitol over
abortion bill. Pro- choice

A well regulated Militia, being
necessary to the security of a free
State, the right of the people to
keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed.
This amendment not only affects me
but everyone living in the United
States. My parents have friends that
live out in the hill country who own
guns. Their main purpose for them is
to hunt and perhaps, if the slight
chance of an intruder, they would have
the means to protect themselves.
Personally, I do not feel comfortable
with guns. My family does not own any
or feel the need to.

The right of the people to be secure
in their persons, houses, papers,
and effects, against unreasonable
searches and seizures, shall not be
violated, and no Warrants shall
issue, but upon probable cause,
supported by Oath or affirmation,
and particularly describing the
place to be searched, and the
persons or things to be seized.
The 4
th
amendment directly concerns
me and my family because we all live in
a house. Also, 3 out of 4 members of
my family operate a vehicle. If the
police were to knock on my front door
demanding to search my house
without a warrant, it would be a total
invasion of privacy. Same applies to
being pulled over while driving. This
amendment specifically protects us
from being victims of unjust searches.
The Congress shall have power to
lay and collect taxes on incomes,
from whatever source derived,
without apportionment among
the several States, and without
regard to any census or
enumeration.
Throughout the year I have had a
couple part time jobs. In addition,
my father has had his own dental
practice for the past 14 years. Out of
each paycheck we received the
government takes a small
percentage out which goes to social
services.
The right of citizens of the United
States to vote shall not be denied or
abridged by the United States or by
any State on account of sex.
This amendment is extremely important
because 50.8 % of the population is
female. Thats over half of the
population! All human beings should be
treated equal and this amendment
expresses that viewpoint. As a female it
means a lot to me to have the right to
vote. It is my personal opinion being
exercised in the decision of
governmental issues.
Section 1.
The eighteenth article of
amendment (prohibition of
alcoholic beverages) to the
Constitution of the United States is
hereby repealed.
Section 2.
The transportation or importation into any State, Territory,
or Possession of the United States for delivery or use therein
of intoxicating liquors, in violation of the laws thereof, is
hereby prohibited.
Section 3.
This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been
ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by
conventions in the several States, as provided in the
Constitution, within seven years from the date of the
submission hereof to the States by the Congress.
Occasionally when my family and I go
out to eat, my parents like to enjoy
either a beer or a glass of wine
accompanied with their meal. Also,
living in Austin, it is very common for
young adults to go to 6
th
street to drink
at bars and socialize.
The right of citizens of the
United States, who are eighteen
years of age or older, to vote
shall not be denied or abridged
by the United States or by any
State on account of age.
This amendment directly affects
me because I turned 18 in
December, being granted the
privilege to vote. It is extremely
important to voice your opinion
because if you dont use your vote,
someone elses counts twice as
much.
A well regulated Militia,
being necessary to the
security of a free State,
the right of the people to
keep and bear Arms,
shall not be infringed.
Why?
I believe this section of the
Constitution was flawed. It was
included as a military strategy so
that militias (regular people self
organizing into local armies)
could form when needed. That
need is gone as we have a
professional military that we
fund massively.
Secondly, the second
amendment could be modified
to exclude guns altogether. The
US can then become safer. Many
countries lack a second
amendment and are safer than
the US. Personally the thought
of civilians with guns of any
kind, frightens me. The US gun
culture is extremely dangerous.
The right of citizens of the
United States to marriage
shall not be denied by the
United States or by any State
on account of sex.
