ETE 335 Elementary Social Studies Lesson Gardners Multiple Intelligences Goals: Learn more about the people that were in hiding. Learn about what it took behind the scenes to keep people in hiding. Learn about what preparations had to be made before people went into hiding. Objectives: Content/Knowledge: Students will be able to understand why people were put into hiding and realize the risk that people went through to hide and also to hide other people. Process/Skills: Students will be able to comprehend and fully grasp the reality of being in hiding and what people went through while in hiding. Values/Dispositions: Students will be able to use their knowledge about WWII to understand why people had to be put in hiding and what certain groups of people were put into hiding. ETE 335 Elementary Social Studies Lesson Gardners Multiple Intelligences Rationale: The topic of people in hiding is a major part of WWII. It is important for students to learn why it happened and what it was like to be in hiding.

Logical/Mathematical Logical/Mathematical Students will evaluate the statistics and choose an area of the statistics to focus on. The two websites the students will use to find the statistics will be the these two links. Students will take their chosen data and will create a chart or graph of the data. Students will then write a one paragraph analysis of the data. Verbal/Linguistic Verbal/Linguistic In addition to the people in hiding (in peoples houses and businesses) children were also shipped to other countries to be in hiding with other families. Watch this video of children that were in hiding. Write a three paragraph analysis of what it was like to be in hiding during WWII. Compare and contrast the different stories. Musical/Rhythmic Musical/Rhythmic Read the poem written by Anne Frank (a girl that was in hiding during WWII). Write a similar poem to this about your life if you had lived during this time. Visual/Spatial Visual/Spatial View the pictures of the annex that Anne Frank hid in during WWII. Search for another photo online of another hiding location during WWII. Compare and contrast the two different hiding places Analyze the hiding places. Write a two paragraph paper about this. 1 paragraph compare/contrast and 1 paragraph analyzing. Body/Kinesthetic Body/Kinesthetic Research the general size of a hiding place for people during WWII. Use masking tape or painters tape and go to the gym and tape out the average size of the hiding place for people during WWII. Interpersonal Interpersonal Work in groups of two and choose one of the ten people that helped hide people during WWII. They research their person using the website provided in addition to other sources they will find in their search. They will then create a short 5 slide powerpoint presentation about their person that includes at least five facts about the person. It also must include at least one picture. Intrapersonal Intrapersonal Chose a different person than you used for the other activity using this website. Choose one person and reflect upon their life and what they did during their life. Write a one page paper of your reflection. Naturalistic Naturalistic Read this story about a family that hid during WWII. Think of another area in nature where people could have hidden during WWII. Draw a picture of the area where people could have hidden. Assessment: 1. I will formally assess their writing using a writing checklist. The graph/chart will be formally assessed as well. The rest of the activities will be informally assessed.
