Module 3 Reflection Question

Module 3- Terms for Reflection Questions.

1. How are motors and generators the same? Different? The difference between a motor and a generator is that
motors include an armature, battery, magnet(s), and contain a complete circuit. The metal sources used in a motor
need to be conductive or have continuity so that the electrons can flow through and allow the armature to continue
spinning. We can find out if a material is conductive by using a multimeter to find its voltage. The material will
either be a conductor or an insulator. The elements on the periodic table that are metals are usually all conductive. All
of these elements on the periodic table consist of molecules that contain two or more atoms and contain a nucleus,
protons, neutrons, electrons. To measure the amount of electric charge, you can use amps (amperes) which is passing
a point in an electric circuit per unit of time, with 6.241 x 10
18
electrons (or one coulomb) per second. In days 10-11
when making the DC motor , as long as the electric current continued to flow from the battery to the copper wires, to
the armature and then the magnets below give it some extra magnetic force to keep it spinning, the DC motor would
work correctly.
Generators, are different because they are controlled in order to generate electricity. When I made the generator in this
module, I had to turn the crank which would turn the gears, which would light the LED.
Generators and Motors are the same because they both are solutions to generating electricity.
