Applications of a compressor

Compressors
The process of increasing the pressure of air,
gas or vapour called compression and the
device used to carry out this processes is
called a compressor

Classification of compressors
According to design and
principle of operation
Compressors

Reciprocating compressor
A machine takes air during the suction stroke at low pressure and then
compresses it to high pressure in a piston-cylinder arrangement is known as
reciprocating compressor.
Classification of compressors
Single acting compressor
Reciprocating
Compressors
Double acting compressor
Single stage compressor
Multistage compressor
Suction, compression and
delivery of air take place
on one side of the piston
Suction, compression and
delivery of air takes place
on both side of the piston
The compression of the air from
the initial pressure to the
final pressure is carried out
in one cylinder only.
The compression of the air from
the initial pressure to the final
pressure is carried out in
more than one cylinder
Single acting compressor
Double acting compressor
Multi stage compressor
