Scholar's challenge # 5
Choice (A)
When I get the scholar's challenge # 5, we have like two choices. We have to choose one
from those. I read both of them and start working on first one. I choose it because I feel
like it's interesting and also little challenging for me. The question is asking you to find
an equation of a line based on 2 points. To do and understand that choice or problem, I
make the chart of see, think, wonder. Than, I make the table

x y
-1 -4
5 8

When we subtract -1 and 5, we will get 6 and when -4 to 8 it will be 12. So, When you
divide 12 and 6. You will get 2 and that's slope. When "x" is 0, the "y" value called y-
axis at that time. In this equation, when "y" is 0, the "x" is -2 that is y-intercept.
ROC = 12/6 = 2
Slope = 2
y-intercept = -2
So, Mr. D tell me that equation like y = mx + b. In this equation, m is equal to slope and
b is equal to y-intercept. When I look at this trick, I got the equation. The equation of
this graph is y = 2x - 2. When I plug the numbers in this equation, I got it correct.
For example.............
y = 2x - 2
4 = 2(-1) - 2
4 = -2 -2
4 = 4
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------
y = 2x - 2
8 = 2(5) - 2
8 = 10 -2
8 = 8
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------
Table:

x y
-1 -4
5 8
11 20
17 32

Now, I'm going to make the graph on the paper.
