Scholars Challenge 6
Not along time ago, Peter took over his friend Victor's avacado business while Victor went
to Antarctica for ayear. Peter did such an amazing job that his friend Chalsea asked him to run
her business too while sh is gong to graduate school for a year in England. Chelsea runs a tree

farm and sells trees to companies that make paper.
Victor has just received several large ordors from 3 companies, askinf for 75 tons, 85 tons,
and 92 tons of wood. He has no idea how many trees he should cut down to produce that amount
of wood, so he dives into Chelsea's farm.

With the data that we are provided we can predict how many trees should Peter cut down
for his three orders. I also have to calculate the equation for Peter, which determines the amount
of trees that have to be cut for the amount of pounds of wood. Using my equation I will boost up
Peters confidence by a lot.

First with this data I have to construct a scatterplot. With the scatterplot I will make a
prediction. My prediction will consist of the linear relationship between number of woods cut
and the tons of wood. The graph on top has a strong linear relainship. The correlation coefficient
is 0.91. When the values form a line, the correlation coefficint is 1. Using this graph I made a
prediction that for 75 tons there would be 690 to 710 trees, for 85 tons there would be 790 to 810
trees and for 92 pound there would be 890 to 910 trees cut down.
Finding the equation is a little har for me because i dont remmember how to do it in the
calculator. Of cource I have to ask my friends for help. My friend told me to go "STAT" and then
to "CALC". Then scroll down to "LinReg(ax+b)". Then you will see the equation for the trend
line. The equation for the trend line is y = 0.1x + 4. Now that we have the equation of the trend
line for the scatter plot, I can calculate the right predictions. To find the right amount of woods
that has to be cut down for the companies, we have to substitute the tons of wood for the y-value
of the equation. Then you should have gotten that for 75 tons Peter has to cut 710 trees, for 85
tons he has to cut 810 trees, and lastly for 92 tons he has to cut 880 trees. As you can see, my
predictions were in range to the predictions found with the equations of the trend line.
Overall, all the predictions and the equations for the trendline were very percise. I bet Peter
is very confident with his predictions. This formula can help him in fiture orders.
