Were The Dark Ages Truly Dark ?

-Mirlaziz Maksudov

The Middle Ages stretched roughly from 500 A.D to 1500 A.D. From the
good side the middle ages were in a time period of learning because there
were many universities that were created, scientific advancements brought
back from the Crusades, and the creation of feudalism that protected
Europe during invasions. From the bad side there was the black plague
which spread all around europe and the invasions. However, I believe that
the Middle Ages were not truly dark because the good far outweighed the
bad.

My first reason that supports my thesis statement is that everyone in
Europe was subject to the feudalism society. From a class to a class ,
those people had to give something in order to get something in return.
Feudalism is basically a pyramid of all the groups(classes like first class
business class and etc) which they had to give something for another thing
in return. For example, from the vassal to the lord the vassal had to give
loyalty, military service, and ransom if needed in order to get protection and
land(fief) from the lord. They had to follow this because of feudal
obligations. My evidence supports my thesis statement because of what
the lord and vassal were giving to each other in order to get what they
desire back.

My second reason that supports my thesis statement is people were in a
learning period. People were gaining more knowledge after the crusades
were over. The Crusades attacked neighboring countries and when they
attacked they were learning about the treasures and knowledge that
country had. The countries had expanded, gained more knowledge, and
were more powerful than before. My evidence supports my thesis
statement because of the Crusades. The Crusades helped gain more
knowledge to all of Europe and eastern Asia.

My third and final reason is Many school were built all around Europe.
Schools were invented during the black plague. During the black plague,
people were finding ways to stop the plague. Think of how there were
doctors. Those doctors couldnt have learned on their own. School was
there to help learn. School had teached doctors to learn how people should
be treated. People made universities for anyone who was willing to learn.
For example, there were universities in Italy, France, Great Britain and all
around Europe. If there wasnt school when the black plague was going on,
we would have all been dead by now. The black plague was stopped by the
doctors who treated the victims. My evidence supports my thesis statement
by showing how the Black Plague was stopped thanks to school.
Everything was invented because most people learned of what to do.

Every one of my reasons supported my thesis by showing how chaos was
stopped in the Middle ages. I believed that the middle ages was not dark
because of knowledge. All the knowledge the crusades gathered helped the
middle ages succeed.
