Running head: INDIVIDUAL TEACHER TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT 2 The coach sent a technology assessment to the trainee, in order to assess what the colleague will need help with during the coaching sessions. The graphed results are displayed throughout this report. The trainee took the survey twice by accident so some of the results will need a bit of clarification. The coach discussed the results with the trainee to be sure of the true results since colleagues responses were skewed. The following two items on the LoTi portion of the questionnaire were answered as a daily occurrence in the colleagues classroom concerning technology. The trainee stated that digital tools were utilized in a teacher-centered learning environment on a daily basis. The colleague also discussed her daily use of technology for communication purposes.
The trainee answered the following LoTi questions using the weekly choice. The coach and the colleague discussed how digitial tools are helpful in the application of historical content knowledge and that they can be compared to modern issues. The trainee mentioned that the students used technology on an individual basis on a weekly basis through the use of computer labs or the iPad cart. Teacher collaboration is an ongoing trend in the Social Studies department. The coach and the trainee stated that the level of digital collaboration within the department was helpful for all of the department members. The coach had to clarify the final results in the weekly category because the results stated two different outcomes. The colleague discussed how students used technology to publish their work every week.
The colleague stated that she used the following technologies on a monthly basis on the LoTi portion of the questionnaire. Web-based activities and alternative assessments where students use higher-order thinking skills are used on a monthly basis to challenge students. Before the trainee assigns the web-based projects, the students are asked if they have used the Running head: INDIVIDUAL TEACHER TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT 5 required technologies or if any of them know of a new technology that could be introduced and substituted. The colleague reminds her students about proper Netiquette procedures every month.
The following questions are from the Adopter portion of the questionnaire. After reviewing the Adopter results and discussing the outcomes with the colleague, the coach was able to conclude that the trainee was definitely not afraid of new technologies. The colleague was excited to learn recent and innovative web 2.0 tools; the trainee was just concerned about training, access, and time. The trainee also wanted to watch someone use the technology first and have access to a handout to reference in class.
During the initial assessment of the trainees classroom, the coach observed several pieces of technology that would complement a teacher-led classroom. The LCD projector is used for PowerPoints and video clips to enhance lectures and can help with review and remediation. The trainee was frustrated that the county has not provided more technology classroom teachers, such as Smart Boards.
The coach created a weekly schedule for the pair to follow throughout the coaching experience. The schedule runs each Wednesday for the five weeks before Thanksgiving break. After meeting for the first coaching session, the coach was able to create a detailed schedule for the trainees wants and needs. The following chart illustrates the coachs plan. Session 1 Wednesday, October 23 During the first session, the coach asked what the colleagues main goals were for the coaching experience. The coach decided to introduce many Web 2.0 tools and give a brief description of how each one could be utilized in the classroom. The trainee wanted to learn about ToonDoo, Flickr, Quizlet, and Voicethread. Session 2 Wednesday, October 30 During this coaching session, the trainee will learn about ToonDoo. Session 3 Wednesday, November 6 During this coaching session, the colleague will learn more about the uses of images for online and hard copy projects with the help of Flickr and Creative Commons. Session 4 Wednesday, November 13 During this coaching session, the trainee will learn about Quizlet. Session 5 Wednesday, November 20 During this coaching session, the colleague will learn about Voicethread.
