Assignment 2: Native American Dwellings

Outcomes
After completing this assignment, students will be able to:
design a Native American dwelling to illustrate the composition of Native American dwellings that were
significant to South Carolina
record and upload a video of a finished product

Overview
In this assignment, you are going to design a Native American dwelling. You will have a choice as to which
tribe you would like to represent. In this project, you will physically create your dwelling. Once it is created,
you will then record a 3-5 minute video presenting your creation. Once it is complete, you will upload it into
Edmodo for others to view.
Instructions
1. Ask the question: Will your group build a Cherokee or Yemassee longhouse village OR a Catawba or
Yemassee wigwam village?
2. Look below at your rubric for project requirements.
3. Make a brief sketch of your village on paper what will go where?
4. Construct a mini Eastern Woodland village using natural resources.
5. Once your village is complete, record a 3-5 minute video presenting your completed project. Highlight
each of the key features that you were to include and explain how you created each one. Also tell how
you can distinguish which tribe is represented by your village (i.e. what makes it a Cherokee or
Yemassee village opposed to a Catawba village).
6. Save your video as described below and then upload it into the appropriate folder in Edmodo.

To submit your assignment to your instructor, save your video and name in the following manner:

Submit your finished work to the assignment 2 link in the Submissions area of Edmodo before 11:59 p.m. U.S.
EST/EDT on the last day of this module.
