Blast from the Past
Founding member Colleen OBrien recounts the first day of Obedience training
in Broken Hill almost 52 years ago
25 members attended the very first obedience training session to be
held in Broken Hills history on Sunday, September 10th, 1961. Many
members worked tirelessly to create an obedience club in Broken
Hill- even travelling to Adelaide to be instructed in obedience classes
and to learn procedures on how to train your dog.
When the BHABODC members attended classes in Adelaide (hosted
by the Adelaide German Shepherd Dog Club), they were loaned a
dog to take into class and be taught training procedures. Despite the
fact that members are no longer loaned a dog (they take their own),
BHABODC members still visit the Adelaide German Shepherd Dog
Club to gain more knowledge about Obedience training.
When the Adelaide members visited Broken Hill, they bought their
dogs up to demonstrate correct training procedures.
