Israel saw the great power that the LORD used against
the Egyptians, so the people feared the LORD, and
they believed in the LORD and in his servant
Moses. (14:31)

and on all the gods of Egypt I
will execute judgments: I am
the LORD. (12:12)

We invest so much of ourselves in
our gods, spend so much on
them and blend our identity and
signifcance with theirs that it
simply will not do for us to have
them unmasked, mocked, or
toppled.
