LAWMAKERS HELP KEEP LOCAL STATE POLICE DETACHMENT
OPEN
CHARLESTON, W.V. The West Virginia State Police detachment in Hundred will remain
open, thanks to the efforts of Senate President Jeff Kessler (D-Marshall) and other lawmakers.
Senate President Kessler says as soon as he began hearing rumors that the Hundred State Police
detachment in Wetzel County was going to be closed, the local legislative team went to work to
make sure that didnt happen.
Assuring that the Hundred State Police detachment will remain open is great news for the
people it serves, says Kessler. This detachment serves folks in a rural, four county area and its
closing would have had a big impact on those residents.
Senate President Kessler says Senate President Pro Tempore Larry Edgell (D-Wetzel) and
Delegate Dave Pethtel (D-Wetzel) worked alongside him and both were instrumental in helping
to keep the detachment open.
This detachment is an important part of the community, says Edgell. After a thorough
investigation and consultation with the Governors office, our efforts proved successful in
keeping the detachment open.
The Hundred State Police detachment serves residents in parts of Marshall, Wetzel, Marion and
Monongalia Counties.
We believe closing the detachment would have greatly compromised the welfare and safety of
the people of Hundred and surrounding areas, says Pethtel.
