Homerun Baseball Camp Visits CCSA by Ms. Leigh
On Tuesday July 8, two coaches from Homerun Baseball camp visited the middle
school students of CCSA durin the Art and !ovement period" Coach #an and Coach $oah
brouht foam baseballs and bats to introduce students to the mechanics of hittin a
baseball" The session started with some hand%eye coordination s&ills and ended with
students swinin 'out of their shoes( and ma&in consistent contact with pitched balls"
The arts and movement bloc& has ta&en on a new shape at CCSA this year" Classes are
split into two roups so each student receives art therapy with !s" Sam twice a wee& and
movement with !iss )eih twice a wee&" *n movement this +rst wee&, students have been
introduced to the +tness concepts of cardiovascular e,ercise and the importance of
stretchin as well as practicin the fundamentals of throwin and catchin"
Than&s to our friends at Homerun Baseball Camp middle school students also learned
proper battin stance and some tric&s for &eepin our eye on the ball- .e are tryin to
schedule additional sessions for the youner classes later this month"
Homerun Baseball Camp was started by Coach John !cCarthy in .ashinton #C /0
years ao" He e,panded the proram to include camps at the parade rounds in 1rospect
1ar&, Broo&lyn in /202" The camp services children of all athletic levels aes 3%0/ and runs

Last week went to the moon. This week we played
with the stars! Beanbag shooting stars! First artists wrote or
drew a wish, folded it, and put it in a bag along with a bunch
of beans. Then, they sewed and decorated a protective cover.
When finished, we played with our stars, shooting them for points
and balancing them around the room.

daytime and the facts of nihttime" .e also tal&ed about the thins we li&e to do durin the day and the
thins we li&e to do durin the niht"
After readin the boo& and tal&in about day and niht the
students ot to choose if they wanted to ma&e a daytime or
nihttime picture" They choose an appropriate color for their
bac&round and drew somethin they li&ed to do durin that
time" They also had to choose if they needed a sun or a moon
dependin on if they were drawin a picture of the day or
niht time"
Some of the favorite activities durin the daytime were oin
to the beach and of course swimmin in the pool" Some of the
favorite nihttime activities were watchin television and
oin to bed"

%ur class worked on so much this week! We focused on the similarities and differences between what happens in the
daytime and what happens in the nighttime! We used &enn 'iagrams, T(charts, maga)ines, and videos to e*plore! We
also worked on our number sense and read some fun read aloud books! We had such a wonderful second week of
summer school!
