Before admittance to the program, students are required to acknowledge that they have

read, and agree to follow the Program Guidelines to the best of their ability. Students
that nd themselves in violation of the guidelines, or of the Cambridge High School
Student Handbook, are subject to appropriate consequences as dened according to
the CHS ARISE administrator.
I. Attendance
A. ARISE Scheduling
1. The CHS ARISE classroom is open from 7:50am to 3:10pm every day
class is in session at Cambridge High School.
2. Students are required to attend a minimum of one half school day every
day class is in session.
a) See section 2. Academics B. Academic Progress for further
requirements on daily attendance.
3. No student shall be admitted into class after 1:00pm.
4. Students enrolled in CHS ARISE are required to provide their own
transportation to and from the CHS ARISE classroom.
B. Excused Absences
1. To be considered excused:
a) The CHS ofce must have been notied before 9:00am the day of the
absence unless the circumstances of the situation are deemed
extreme.
b) Ofcial documentation must be provided at the time the student
returns to class.
c) The absence must be documented as having taken place during the
class day rendering the student unable to attend at any time during
the ARISE school day.
2. Appropriate Excused Absences:
a) A mandated court date or hearing during class time
b) Medical emergency involving a doctor
c) Funeral or Death in Family
3. All cases of long-term absences (more than 3 or more days) are handled
through the administrative ofces of Cambridge High School or on a
case-by-case basis.
C. Unexcused Absences
1. Failure to meet daily requirements:
a) If a student does not arrive to class by 1:00pm or inform the ARISE
instructor of their absence before said time, they will be considered a
No Call/No Show and given an unexcused absence.
(1) If the student arrives after 1:00pm they will not be admitted to
class, as they will be incapable of meeting the daily attendance
requirement of one half school day.
b) If a student fails to complete the daily On Track requirements, they
will be given an Unexcused Absence.
2. Consequences Schedule:
CHS ARISE PROGRAM
a) After the third unexcused absence, the student will have a
reevaluation conference with the ARISE instructor.
D. Suspension & Expulsion
1. Any student who commits an act that results in either suspension or
expulsion from school is no longer eligible to participate in the CHS
ARISE program.
2. When any such act occurs, the student will immediately be referred to
the CHS ARISE administrator and/or school resources ofcer for
disciplinary actions.
II. Academics
A. Academic Requirements
1. Individual Career & Academic Plan
a) Upon entry into CHS ARISE, each student is reuqired to ll out an
iCAP with the ARISE instructor. This will then dene and outline
their academic path to graduation.
2. Students are required to complete a Career Portfolio and pass a Senior
Exit Interview before graduation from the CHS ARISE Program.
B. Academic Progress
1. On Track
a) Each student is required to maintain steady academic progress.
(1) Steady academic progress is dened as:
(a) Completing a minimum of three lessons, or their equitable
equivalent on a daily basis.
(b) Completing a minimum of four academic courses per
semester.
b) See section V. Assessment for more on Academic Progress.
2. Course Completion
a) CHS ARISE issues credit based on Performance-Based standards
established by the content departments and the ARISE instructor.
b) As per state requirements for Performance Based standards,
students will obtain the knowledge competencies and skills that are
considered essential to success in postsecondary studies or on the
job.
c) Students are required to complete all lessons assigned including an
Assessment and Review Test.
d) Once a student has completed all assigned lessons, the ARISE
instructor may assign additional lessons to supplement the
requirements of the Performance-Based standards.
C. Academic Dishonesty
1. Plagiarism
a) After the rst offense, the student will be required to attend a
conference with the CHS ARISE administrator, placed on probation,
and be required to start the course or project over.
b) After the second offense, the student will be transitioned out of CHS
ARISE.
2. Inappropriate use of Technology
CHS ARISE PROGRAM
a) Smart Phones
(1) The use of smart phones or the Internet to look up an answer
while working in the virtual classroom is strictly prohibited.
b) Other Technologies
(1) After the rst offense, the student will be given a verbal
warning.
(2) After the second offense, the student will be referred to the CHS
ARISE administrator.
(3) After the third offense, the student will be transitioned out of
CHS ARISE.
III. Employment and Career Education
A. Employment
1. For students to receive credit, proof of hours worked must be turned in
and on le in the CHS ARISE classroom.
a) No under the table work hours will be accepted for credit.
2. In order to maintain a full-time status, students are required to keep
Minimum Employment and to turn in their hours every pay period.
a) Minimum Employment is dened as turning in an average of 15
work hours weekly throughout the course of their enrollment at CHS
ARISE.
b) If a student fails to maintain employment, they are required to
report to the CHS ARISE classroom for an extra session.
(1) During that time students will:
(a) Rene their career portfolio
(b) Fill out applications
(c) Call prospective employers and follow up on turned in
applications
(d) Seek out volunteer opportunities
(e) Job shadow prospective employers
(2) Student who fail to attend both two-hour sessions will be given
an unexcused absence for the day.
c) Failure to meet and/or maintain the Minimum Employment status
will result in the student being transitioned out of CHS ARISE.
3. Students have several options for accumulating hours.
a) Option 1: Employment in the Cambridge Community
(1) Students are responsible for providing proof of the hours they
work in the form of check stubs in a timely fashion (within the
next pay period; usually 2 weeks).
(2) Students that enter the program mid-semester are eligible to
turn in all hours worked during the course of the current
semester.
b) Option 2: Volunteer/Community Service with an Ofcial Agency
(1) CHS ARISE partners with several organizations in the
Cambridge community. Students may seek help from the ARISE
instructor or administrator in connecting wiht different
community groups.
CHS ARISE PROGRAM
(2) Students choosing to use this option will need to print and take a
Volunteer/Community Service form with them to ll our and
return to the ARISE instructor.
c) Option 3: Cambridge Schools Student Internship Program
(1) Students in the ARISE program are eligible to apply for an
unpaid internship with the Cambridge Schools.
(2) If accepted, they will be placed under the supervision of a
Cambridge Schools employee who will oversee their internship
and assign their job description.
(3) Areas open to applications are:
(a) Custodial
(b) Building & Grounds
(c) Clerical
4. Hours will be monitored on the same schedule as Academics
a) See section V. Assessment and Probation
IV. Technology
A. Acceptable Computer Usage Policy
1. If a student wishes to use the technology available in the CHS ARISE
classroom, they are required to have a current ACUP signed and on le.
B. Technology Check-out
1. To be considered eligible to check out technology from the CHS ARISE
classroom, the following conditions must have been met:
a) Have good attendance standing
b) Have good academic standing
c) Have good employment standing
2. Disciplinary action will be followed if there is damage done to the CHS
ARISE technology.
V. Assessment
A. ARISE Assessment
1. Student progress will be assessed once a week (usually on
Wednesdays).
2. Students are responsible for maintaining their own progress. The result
of falling behind is either:
a) Transition out of the ARISE program
b) Delayed graduation date
VI. Transition
A. Cambridge High School to CHS ARISE
1. Enrollment in the CHS ARISE program is limited. Prospective students
who wish to be considered for the program must meet the following
requirements:
a) Have completed their sophomore year of high school.
b) Met the programs credit requirements:
(1) Fall Enrollment
(a) Junior 10 or less credits
(b) Senior 17 or less credits
CHS ARISE PROGRAM
(2) Spring Enrollment
(a) Junior 13 or less credits
(b) Senior 21 or less credits
(3) Students who enter the program below the minimum credit
requirements will be considered Off Track, and are expected to
perform beyond the minimum until such time as they are On
Track.
(4) Submit a completed CHS ARISE Application to the CHS Guidance
Department.
(a) An application is not considered complete until all the
required signatures are collected and the application has
been submitted to an ARISE instructor or administrator.
(5) Participate in an entrance interview with the CHS ARISE
instructor and administrators.
(a) It is expected that when the student arrives to the interview
they will present their Career Objective Goal.
(b) If the applicant arrives to the interview unprepared, the
interview will be rescheduled for a later date.
