Transfer Functions, Eigenvalues and QFD in Concer

AUTHOR(S)

ABSTRACT
Transfer functions play an important role in Design for Six Sigma, since they describe how the process controls contribute to
the process responses defined by customers. In general, a transfer function is a linear mapping between the controls and the
corresponding responses and thus can be represented by a matrix, for instance by a QFD matrix. Commonly a transfer function
can not be inverted. Hence, no conclusions can be drawn from the known process responses to the unknown values of the
process controls. To remedy this situation, the principal eigenvector of the composition of the transfer function matrix and its
transpose is computed. Based on the predictive property of a transfer function and on the principal eigenvector it is shown how
QFD benefits from this context.
