What We Know
The only known plan of Fort
Caroline was drawn by a settler in
1564
Laudonnieres description of the
fort includes a triangular formation
The fort was surrounded by a moat
The western edge of the moat was
smaller in size
The only dimensions Laudonniere
recorded were that of an 18 x 18
(paces) courtyard located in the
center of the fort
What We Found
Arial photographs depicted a
triangular formation
Arial photographs depicted straight
lines running parallel to the east
and west of the triangular
formation
Ground exploration revealed an 18
x 18 area adjacent to the triangular
formation
Ground exploration revealed an
abundance of oyster shells at the
point of the upper triangle
Preserved the upper triangle
Possibly used for fortification
