Self Directed Learning Contract


Two Contracts in One-School & Teaching
School
VISION: The picture in your mind of yourself having achieved excellence in the area of
your choice.
-Right now my goal is to complete my degree and PLP within a three year time frame,
including passing math in order to become an elementary school teacher.

Teaching
-My class room will be inviting, safe, warm, inquiring, caring, and respectful. Place
students are excited to be a part of and want to discover new things about themselves
and education and then share it with their community.

GOAL: The specific achievement you want to makean achievement that moves
You closer to your vision.
School
-passing math by June 2015
-completing the PLP program by June 2015

Teaching
-To successfully complete the PLP program and be employed by school district 47 as a
teacher


CHALLENGE: The most rigorous test of your new skills that you think you can
Manage.
During Week 7 our goal was understanding and recognising when and how to successfully to
utilise the curriculum with in our and the students means and needs. There were three areas of
expertise that we should master. (Mamchur, Module 2, Section 5)
Knowledge of subject, curricular expertise.
Knowledge of education, how people learn, how students develop.
Knowledge of human behavior, how you behave, how others behave
We created a contract with ourselves along the same lines as above become an expert in our
lives, commit and follow through. My contract is ever changing and I have added in Red the
things that have changed recently. I continue to reach and strive for my goals and once they
are met I will create new ones.

-Time management, with children, husband, and dog and outside activities ensuring I
take the time necessary to study to complete all the courses by June 2015
Teaching
-The ability to teach a class of children with behavior challenges, health challenges and
outside issues successfully.

PLAN: An outline of methods, activities, strategies, people, and resources you can
Use to meet your challenge.
School
-Higher a tutor for math
-register for history, English and lab science in September 2014
-layout a study schedule to follow everyday (I follow a schedule I have created every
day; it helps to keep me going.)
-plan for activities for my children once a week so I can have a full day to study (I have
created play dates, sleep overs and events for the girls to enjoy so I can have
uninterrupted time during the day)
-do not take on any extra projects or jobs to ensure I have time to work on the courses (
I have resigned from teaching dance, given up my duties in the gym and decided not to
take on extra hours at work.)
-Ask for help when needed
Teaching
-in order to be a successful candidate to be employed for school district 47 I must;
-volunteer at all the schools and get to know various teachers
-complete my degree
-complete the PLP program with great reviews
-attend workshops and outside courses related to what I would like to teach
-update my resume
-be prepared

TIMETABLE: The specific dates or times when you will accomplish the steps in

School
-complete classroom management by August 2014

Teaching
-attend work shop in Vancouver at UBC August 2014
-Volunteer in a class room September 2014

PROBLEMS: A list of things that can go wrongobstacles, resistant people,
Personal shortcomings and so on.
School
-time issues with family, holidays and kids activities that do not allow me to complete all
the courses on time.

Teaching
-no jobs available in our community when I complete the program
-I am not a successful candidate for reasons beyond my control

PREVENTIONS: Strategies you can employ to avoid or resolve these anticipated
Difficulties.
School
-when time issues come up, make sure I ask for help. Help with the kids, help with work,
and help understanding
Teaching
-be prepared to wait in there are no jobs available
-If not employed due to other reasons, see if those reasons can be rectified and try
again.

BASELINE: An indication of your present knowledge/skill in the goal area of activity.
School
I am currently enrolled in courses and working on time management to complete
projects and assignments a head of time. (I have signed up for two more courses to
begin in September)
Teaching
-I have met with a few teachers and discussed the options of volunteer hours in their
class rooms next year. ( I have met with my SA and am going to help her set up her
class room and go to a Pro D Day work shop with her.)
-I have received information about workshops to attend and am looking at what one
would be best suited to what I want to teach.

EVALUATION:
Minimum: The smallest improvement you will accept.
School
-add one more course in September to study (done)

-talk to more teachers about volunteering

Satisfactory: An acceptable level of improvement/performance.
School
-time spent working on all courses everyday (done)

-write the Geography exam in August

-coordinate meeting times with other teachers to get information about teaching
-contact workshops and get more information on other types of workshops to attend

Excellent: Expertness in your performance.

-Passing all courses the first time with grades higher than a B-
-register for four courses in September 2014

-well deserved holiday for me and my family for an extended period of time, more than a
week.

-Buy $ supplies that I will use in the class room bigger than what I can carry in a box to and from
a school every day.
