Technology in the Classroom

As you have probably observed, technology is
rapidly becoming an integral part of most
professions. I am striving as an educator to
bring more technology into the classroom.
You may find your child speaking about items
such as tablets being used in the classroom,
online assignments, discussion boards, and
internet-based videos and activities.

Our classroom assignments and information
are also available on the internet. Please visit
our website for special content as well.

PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS

All eighth graders must meet three requirements
in English in order to be eligible for promotion at
the end of the school year.

1. Earn 3 grade points in the course of the year; D-
or better in the third trimester. Any student with
an F in the third trimester will not be promoted.

2. Pass two writing proficiencies out of the three
that are given.

Writing Alternative: Have an adequate
amount of writing saved in their writing portfolios
to show growth throughout the school year.
Writing portfolio assignments come from English
homework. A student must earn a C- or better in
the third trimester to be eligible for this
alternative.

3. Earn 1000 points or more on the SRI (Scholastic
Reading Inventory), which tests the reading and
comprehension abilities of a student.

Reading Alternative: Earn 180 points in
Reading Counts (60 per trimester) and earn a C- or
better in the third trimester. A student must earn
180 points for the school year to be considered as
fulfilling this alternative.
