Why we are here for Oceana County Oceana County averages 61% teen pregnancy compared to Michigans average of 48.3%.
Also, Medicaid paid births in Oceana County is at 73% compared to Michigan at 45.3%.
Oceana County is also higher in infant mortality and low birth weights than Michigans average. The Healthy People 2020 target is 36.2 births per 1,000 females compared to 75.2 births per 1,000 females, which presently exist in this county. With these statistics it is evident that much more is needs to be done in this area. Our Mission Our mission is to provide education to teenagers of Oceana County about the prevention of pregnancy and to make the necessary referrals to support the clients needs and have a healthy pregnancy. Philosophy The Teen Resource Center in Oceana County will collaborate with local community resources to provide the necessary referrals to fit each clients need to maintain the physical, mental, and emotional health of teenagers. Our core philosophy is Compassionate Care that provides each individual with empathy, kindness, and understanding. To achieve this we commit to: Maintain strict client/mentor confidentiality, except when required by law Provide clients with physical, emotional, and mental support to improve their overall well-being Provide referrals to teenagers already pregnant, in order to decrease low-birth rate and infant mortality
Goals The Teen Resource Center is formulizing a community program in Oceana County to reduce the statistical averages of teen pregnancies in this area. The goals are as follows: Advocate for each client equally regardless of socioeconomic status, race, age, or gender with strict adherence to confidential guidelines. Provide a comprehensive program for unplanned pregnancy support utilizing volunteers that is cost-effective and supported by the community. Develop education programs to decrease the number of teen pregnancies 15% by December, 2015 in Oceana County. Incorporate a comprehensive program utilizing professional volunteers and/or employees by June, 2014.
Objectives The Teen Resource Center provides objectives with achievable outcomes that are measureable and describe action taken. The objectives plans of action are as follows: To treat each of our clients equally by providing continuous care and advocating for each individual based on their needs at all times by scoring at the 90 th
percentile in client satisfaction by November, 2014. To minimize operational costs by utilizing resources within the community-grants, volunteers and donations with a goal to balance the budget by December, 2014 in the amount of $150,000.00. To enhance community education on the prevalence of teen pregnancy by providing literature in the resource center and within the schools in collaboration with Planned Parenthood and the health department, as well as hold classes in the center. To incorporate a multidisciplinary advocate program through the use of physicians, nurses, social workers, law enforcement, dietitian, lawyer and other resources as needed.
Job Descriptions According to Yoder-Wise (2014), a job description can also be called position description. A job or position description describes the role and responsibilities within the organization that the position requires. These descriptions can be brief or extensive depending on the requirements of the position. The position description is important so each staff member or board member understands the expectation of their role. Visionary Board and Working Board The visionary board will be voluntary members and consist of a physician, hospital administrator, social worker, high school teacher, and community leaders. The board will meet approximately four times a year and will be filled by members that hold key positions in the community. The focus of these meetings will be structure of the organization and opportunities for advancement. These will not be paid positions.
The working board will meet at the beginning of each month to establish goals, discuss finances, and address possible issues. The head of the working board is the president along with the vice president, secretary, treasure, and executive director. All positions on this board will be compensated a nominal amount. Visionary Board Working Board Job Recruitment Recruiting committed volunteers for all positions will be very important to the Teen Resource Center. Yoder-Wise (2014) cites that if potential applicants have the value that the needs for the patient come first that this value will also be articulated via the organization. One example of a necessary volunteer would be the physician on the visionary board. The physician that volunteers would be required to: Support the mission, values, goals and philosophy of the Teen Advocate Center Have a vision to promote an expand support to pregnant teenagers Be committed to reducing teen pregnancy in Oceana County Support Healthy People 2020 targets Be available to meet four times per year with other board members
