Creation Myth

In this critical response paper, I am going to create my own creation
myth. Although a lot of the creation myths I have read in our readings are
interesting, I find them a little difficult to comprehend. So I would like to
come up with my own original creation myth. Even though this is supposed
to be a myth, I will end up probably incorporating some bits and pieces of
my own beliefs on where the world came from and if man is separated from
the spiritual or divine realm. However, I also want to incorporate things that
are the opposite of my beliefs as well. I think my myth will broaden my
horizon a little if I venture away from my personal beliefs. There might be
some similarities with some of the creation myths we have studied as well. I
think that coming up with a creation myth will be difficult because man and
life is very complex especially, when you are trying to explain the diversity
of life and the reasons and meaning of pain and struggle. I also think you
need to be very creative to come up with a myth like this.
My myth consists of six Gods and one Goddess. Each God is the ruler
of his or her own planet. There is the God of Mars, the Goddess of Venus,
the God of Jupiter, the God of Saturn, the God of Uranus, the God of
Mercury, and the God of Neptune. Each God had their own planets to rule
and never bothered one another. In fact, they hardly ever came across each
other. There also was a God for the sun and a God for the moon but all they
did was watch over their planets with no effort. The Goddess of Venus was
the Evil God of them all and not because she is the female God! Venus is the
hottest planet because the Goddess of Venus spews fire out of her very core
destroying any possibility of life on her planet. The Goddess of Venus was
named Veeka and she was very envious of all the other planets because in
one-way or another they seemed to prosper. She grew very hateful from her
envy because some planets contained life or functioned harmoniously and
hers obviously did not. She was jealous and wanted all the planets destroyed.
The God of Pluto and the God of Neptune were both the most bored planets
because they were much too cold to create and sustain life. The only life that
existed on any other planets were plants. These plants were small and were
the only life that existed on any planets. Pluto had a very strong yearning to
create and sustain life. One night, Pluto decided to visit his neighbor
Neptune to see if he too wanted to create life. The God of Pluto was named
Platus and Neptune was named Neeblo. Neeblo was very excited to get a
visitor because he too was lonely and wanted to create life. Platus convinced
Neeblo to put their heads together and find a way to create and sustain life.
Of course they knew their own planets were much too far from the sun to
sustain life so they came to the conclusion that they would have to create a
brand new planet closer to the sun but not too close otherwise Veeka would
find them and destroy their new planet. Being the coldest planets, they knew
they would need help from all the other planets to create this new planet.
Each planet all had their own strengths and weaknesses and it would take a
combined effort to create the new planet. Platus and Neeblo wanted to go to
the sun and the moon first. For they knew that without the Sun and the
moon, the life they wanted to create could not exist. Platus did not just want
a simple weed to watch over. Platus wanted something far greater.
Something capable of feeling, capable of love, hate, joy, and pain. Platus
wanted companionships, partnerships, trust, and most of all, learning. He
wanted lives that could grow by experiences and thrive on love. He wanted
emotions so strong life could destroy or create itself. Most of all, he wanted
each life to differ from one another and contain both good and bad parts.
Each God only contained one emotion and the only emotion Platus felt was
yearning for companionship. Neeblo felt only compassion and love. Of
course Veeka felt only Envy and jealousy that soon became hate. Mercury
felt anger but he always knew how to control it. The God of Uranus felt only
pain and sorrow and over time fear stemmed from those emotions. Saturn
felt and created companionship and partnership, which is represented with
the endless ring that is attached to Saturn. Platus and Neeblo both knew it
would take much convincing to get the other planets to each contribute to
this new planet they sought to create. They took many years of preparation
and planning and finally went to the sun and moon and presented their ideas.
The sun and moon felt no emotions and said they would do whatever all the
other planets wanted to do. Platus and Neeblo went to each planet begging
and pleading for help. Over many years they finally convinced all four
planets except, of course Venus. Platus and Neeblo both new better than to
include Veeka in their creation. Without Veekas input they knew they could
not create life that included envy hate or jealousy and they made peace with
that. For they knew that those three emotions would most likely destroy their
entire planet at some point. Everything was set and one night all six planets
combined all their powers at once. This occurred over the course of six days.
Each planet got one day to incorporate their emotions onto this planet.
Everything was going as planned until Veeka caught wind of what the six
planets were doing. On the sixth day Veeka started fighting all six planets to
stop their creation. This war lasted and entire day because Veeka was
extremely powerful, due to all her rage and hate. Soon the seventh day came
around and Veeka realized she could not overpower all six Gods especially
Neeblo with his strong compassion and love. So with one final desperate
attempt, Veeka shot all her hate, jealousy, and envy to their planet just as it
finished. Once the planet was finished, they decided to call this planet,
Earth. With all the strong emotions that were blasted to earth there was
much more than just plants that were created. This is where the first human
came to past. This human was purely a spirit containing a soul with the need
of a physical temporary body. This body would eventually grow old and
give out but the humans spirit will continue to live on. This human was not
a man but a woman similar to Veeka but with compassion and love and
without envy, jealousy or hate because she was created right before Veeka
blasted earth with her emotions. This woman felt all the other good emotions
but she also felt pain and sorrow from the God of Uranus. This woman
named herself Lilith. Lilith longed for partnership and companionship as a
result from the God of Saturn. Over time, her longing turned into pain and
sorrow from her deep loneliness due to not satisfying her yearning for
companionship. Lilith, being the first human had the strongest of all these
emotions and she used this power to create one just like herself. This human
she yearned for was a man. She wanted a man because she wanted someone
who was different from her similar to what Plutas wanted all along. This is
where Lilith learned that instead of sitting with her sorrow and pain, she
could simply do something about it. This man became her partner and
although he was not as powerful as Lilith, he was still very powerful.
However, this human felt the emotions left from Veeka as well. Even though
he felt Veekas emotions they were not very strong and were easily
controlled. Lilith and her man formed a companionship and combined their
powers to make more humans like themselves. They quickly learned that
their need for physical experience was very strong. Each human that was
made experienced each emotion differently some stronger than others and
some weaker than others. After a few years, Lilith and her partner got sick of
the constant jealousy, greed, and envy that came from their creations. Lilith
sought out to create another living creature that lacked not only these petty
emotions but also emotions that could control you such as deep love and
compassion. Lilith then created a wolf. An animal that would mostly run on
instinct but also is loyal. This is where the beginning of animals occurred.
For many years humans only used animals as companions and friends. With
each generation of humans, Veekas emotions started to get stronger through
them. But, even with Veekas destructible emotions getting stronger with
each generation so were the other emotions given by the other Gods such as
love, compassion, etc. With Veekas envy, greed was born. Over time
humans began to kill their animal companions for food. Plutas looked down
at their creation and realized that without Veekas power, they could not have
created life that had not only good inside them but also bad. He decided to
not meddle in this creation. Plutas and Neeblo were given the responsibility
to be the Gods of the earth since they were the ones who wanted Earth
created. Veeka watched over earth as well and instead of trying to destroy it,
she decided she would rather watch the humans destroy it on there own with
her emotions. Veeka vowed that as long as earth existed she would always
try to tempt and corrupt the people of Earth. Plutas and Neeblo were okay
with this because they trusted in all the other good emotions humans had
acquired. Every-time a human died, their spirit ascends up to the universe to
join Plutas and Neeblo to watch over the Earth. Plutas and Neeblo only
wanted good people who lived their lives with compassion, love and without
hate, envy, or greed like Veeka. Plutas realized that humans were going to
have to make mistakes to grow and learn and decided that as long as they see
the error of their ways in the end, they would be allowed to live with Plutas
and Neeblo. The humans who chose the envious, hateful path were cast out
and thrown across the galaxy to Veekas planet. Veekas planet is always on
fire and here they will spend an eternity burning. That was how the earth
was created. Humans know that sometimes using those good emotions and
acting upon them may lead to temporary pain and suffering but in the end
they will be rulers of Earth. All they have to do is look past the physical
needs they desire on earth to one day be Gods of their own. This is how the
world started. The following images on the next few pages are pictures of
Veeka, Neeblo, and Plutas. If you look at Veeka you can see how much fire
she spews out from her very core. If you look at Neeblo you can see the
frigid cold that emits off this planet. Lastly, if you look closely at Plutas you
can actually see one of his eyes right in the center of the planet. This shows
us that he is always watching!
