DUE AUGUST 26

, 2014

You are to demonstrate and cell-a-brate your mastery of cells by completing a project.
You may choose one from the following project choices listed. Please choose something that
you can do successfully! You will present your project to Mrs. Hobson. You are expected to
show that you know all the major organelles and their location in a cell. Mrs. Hobson will
evaluate you based on your presentation and the quality and accuracy of your model.

Your model must include ALL of the following organelles:
Vacuoles Cell Membrane Cytoplasm
Nucleus Mitochondria
Cell Wall (plant cells) Chloroplasts (plant cells)

Grades will generally be based on the following:
1. Name and date listed on the project.
2. The cell type (plant or animal) is labeled.
3. All major organelles correctly labeled with the correct structure.
4. Good description of the function of the each organelle.
5. Give an analogy for all the organelles you are presenting.
6. Model must be less than 30 centimeters on any side.
7. You can use any materials as long as they are safe!
8. Information is well organized: title, clearly labeled, good spacing, use of underlining,
bold, etc.
9. Neatness: penmanship, straight level writing, and spelling are very important.
10. Creative/Colorful/Interesting/Originality will always be a positive trait to look for while
grading.

Menu of Project Choices:
1. Create a 3-D cell model. It can be out of any nonfood material like paper mache,
styrene, clay, cardboard, etc.

2. Make an incredible edible cell model.
Using edible materials build a model of a plant or animal cell. Choose food that
accurately represents the structure of each organelle- for example shape and size is
similar to the real organelles.
Ask Mrs. Hobson for a chart where you will indicate which material you used to
represent each of the structures.
Please bring the cell project on/in a disposable container that you do not need returned.

3. Author a PowerPoint slide show on plant and animal cells. It must have at least 10
slides but no more than 14 slides.

4. Compose a childrens book or mini-textbook on plant and animal cells. It can be hand
drawn or images/clip art may be used. Include a cover and a title page. Must be
approximately 12 pages.

5. Create an educational board game that players can explore and learn about cells.

6. Create a video that demonstrates knowledge of cells. For example film a skit. Limit to 5
minutes.

7. Write and perform a song about cells. Must include information about all organelles
listed and the type of cell(s) you are singing about.

8. Create a ride at an amusement park that would simulate traveling through a cell as
though the riders were microscopic in size. Describe the organelles as you find them
during the trip.

9. Write a short story about some fantasy adventure through a cell (i.e. Magic School
Bus) or how a mad scientist uses a cell. Be creative with your characters! It must be
illustrated. No more than 5 pages.

10. Make a Poster
Draw an animal or plant cell with all the major organelles with markers on paper.
Label all the major organelles (parts) of the cell.
Describe the function of the organelles you are presenting.
Give an analogy for all the organelles you are presenting.
Draw the analogy and describe it. Explain your analogy to your class.
