(7 marks) 16. (continued) 17. Mr. Yip, a mathematics teacher, decides to plan for the frequencies of assignments and tests that he has to give to each of hit students every month, The factors that he needs to consider are as follows: (For convenience, suppose there are 30 days per month and holidays are excluded.) (D_ The number of assignments and tests cannot exceed 15 and 6 respectively. (I) Duc to the heavy workload, Mr. Yip can mark for each student at most a total of 17 exercises (either assignments or tests) per month. Let the numbers of assignments and tests every month be x and y respectively. (@) Write down all the possible constraints on x and y Using Figure 9, shade the region that represents the solution to the above constraints, (6 marks) (>) Mr, Yip is an absent-minded teacher that he sometimes forgets counting the number of exercises. If he marks for each student more than 17 exercises in a month, he will be wervuas and can mark at most 15 exer es in the next month in order to recover. Otherwise, he will be burnt-out at the end of that month, Given that the factor (1) is followed. (i) Find the probability that Mr. Yip is nervous in a certain month. (ii) On Ist September 2006, the school will start a new academic year. What is the Probability that Mr. Yip will not be bumt-out at the end of October 20062 (5 marks) ip S| Figure 9 17. (continued) Figure 10a Figure 10b (a) _ In Figure 10a, C; is a circle with radius ry cm. Three identical circles Cp of radii rp em touch each other externally and C; internally as shown. (Express rin terms ofr; and leave your answer in surd form. (ii) Hence, find the perimeter of the shaded region in terms of x and n1. (Leave your answer in surd form.) (5 marks) (b) Another nine smaller identical cireles C3 are formed in the same way in (a) as shown in Figure 10b. A student says that if the process continues infinitely, the sum of the perimeters of the shaded regions formed will be equal to the circumference of C). Is the student correct? Explain your answer.
