How to prepare Sambar

Sambar is a staple part of most South Indian meals. Every family has their own personal
recipe/touch to making this fantastic daal. The amazing part is that it is so flavorful and

-. 1ash and soak the Toor Daal for &' minutes.
/. Drain the water and put it in the $ressure cooker.

). (lose the cooker cook the Daal on medium heat - whistle and allow the pressure to
go down.
4. 7eanwhile soak the Tamarind in -// cup hot 1ater and allow it to soften.

:. 8dd in Turmeric $owder Tomatoes pinch of 8safoetida -// the (hilli $owder -// the
Sambar $owder and Drumsticks.

=. 7ash the Tamarind so the >uice/paste seperates from the fiber and the seeds.
-'. ?se a seive and starin the >uice into the boiling Sambar.
--. 8dd the balance of the 1ater .-// cup or amount needed0 to get the Sambar to the
desired consistency.
-/. 8llow it boil till the raw Tamarind smell has gone and the Tomatoes should also be
cooked.
-&. @or the seasoning take a small skillet on medium heat and add in the 9il.
-). 9nce hot add in 7ustard Seeds and a pinch of 8safoetida.
-4. 8llow the 7ustard Seeds to pop.
-+. Then add in (urry 3eaves and turn off the stove.

water to avoid powders burning.
