Cell: (704)-995-7697 pendletonben@yahoo.com http://benpendleton.weebly.com Mission Statement To state it simply, Im seeking a career in the military, to serve and to address some of the issues our nation faces. Im interested in leadership, teaching and aspiring to a policy-level position someday. To achieve this, I intend to attend a four-year university in the East where I can major in relevant subjects to achieve those life goals. I will also pursue graduate studies. Personal Statement People tell me that I am a leader and, to tell the truth, that is exactly what I am, a leader. The words of former archbishop Desmond Tutu describe me perfectly: I am a leader by default, because nature does not allow a vacuum. Others say that I am persistent. This is true: whenever I find a problem, I always stick around to figure out a solution to the problem. I am also multi- faceted; there are too many things about myself to narrow the view of myself down to a few simple words. Everywhere people look, I surprise them with my personality and capabilities. Im looking to keep improving and learning more and more leadership skills. Activities and Honors

Being in the Boy Scouts has been one of the most influential experiences of my life. The Boy Scouts is an organization where young males learn everything from outdoor skills to leadership skills, and from diligence to various job skills (through merit badges). My Boy Scout Troop is a bit different from other troops throughout the nation. My Troop is much larger than the average troop; however, we also get more activities and advancements done than the average troop. I have had the privilege to be selected by my peers to lead this troop of 100+ scouts, and this has taught me that no matter what goes wrong, there is always a way.
I have been practicing Tae Kwon Do for the past 12 years. Tae Kwon Do is a fairly modern martial art that derived from aspects of many East Asian martial arts, and it has evolved with the ever changing dynamic of society. I go to a very traditionalist Tae Kwon Do school, where things are, for the most part, how they were when Tae Kwon Do was formed. In the 12 years I have been in Tae Kwon Do, I have learned more than I could have imagined, not just in the way of martial arts, but in a spiritual way. I have learned to persevere through challenges, to respect those who have earned it, and to fight for what is right.
Band has also been one of the most influential things on my life. I am in the LNHS sit- down concert-style band, the LNHS Jazz ensemble, and the LNHS Marching Wildcats that travels to compete against other bands. Life in the band program is one of the best things that could happen to somebody like me. Band has taught me that hard work and determination pay off, and that life is too short not to enjoy the little things. The band program is home to the greatest people, I would not have met my best friends if it were not for band.
