AM/FM/SATincarentertainmentsystemwithanRNS510indashDVD/CDtouchscreen
GPSnavigationincarentertainmentsystem.Thisswapwasdoneona2010Volkswagen
CCSport.Otherapplicationsmayusesimilarsteps.
Toolsneeded:
t20torxdriver
twosidedtape
pairofscissors
Toweltocoveryourconsole
Smallflashlightalittlelightisalwaysnice

Step1:
Coveryourconsole/shifterwithathicktoweltopreventanythingfrombeingscratched.
Removethekeyandmakesureeverythingisoff.Startbyremovingthetrimaroundthe
headunit.OntheCC/Passatpullononeofthebottomcornerstogetitstartedthen
workyourwayaroundthetrim.Therearetwoclipsonthebottom,twoatthetop,
andoneoneachside.Becareful,thetrimcancrackifyouusetoomuchforce.Take
yourtime.

Step2:
Unplugthepassengerairbagindicatorfromthetrim.Squeezethesidesoftheplugand
itcomesoffeasily.Setthetrimoutoftheway.Veryimportant,donotturnthecar
onwhiletheairbaglightisunpluggedoryouwillgetawarningonthedash.

Step3:

Usingthetorxdriver,removethefourtorxscrewsfromtheRCD.Donotlosethem,
youwillneedthemtoinstalltheRNS.

Step4:
PulltheRCDstraightout.Thereisplentyofslackinthecablestogettheunitout.
Onceout,unplugtheconnectors.TheantennaplugsaresmallFakrasandhaveawhite
releaseontheside.Squeezethereleaseandtheywillslideoffwithaclick.Thelarge
plugiscalledaquadralockandyouwillneedtoswingthelockingleveruptounlockthe
plug.Ittakesmoreeffortthanyouthink,butbepatient.Itwillunlock.Inthepicture
below,theRCDisthetopunit.Notetheplugsarethesameonbothunitandarecolor
coded.TheblueplugontheRNSisfortheGPSantenna.

Step5:
PulloutyourGPSantenna.Thereisacavityabovetheareawheretheheadunitlives
thatistheperfectsizefortheantenna.Reachabovetheplasticchassistheheadunit
slidesintoandyouwillfindtheareaIamtalkingabout.Cutasmallpieceoftwosided
tapeandsticktheantennainplace.Plugtheotherendintotheblueplugontheback
oftheRNS.

Step6:
Plugintheantennacablesandthequadralockplug.Tuckthewiresbehindtheunitand
slideitintoplace.Makesurethemountingholeslineuptoo.Tightenthet20sback
intoplace.Pressthepowerknobandseeiftheunitpowersup.Assumingitdoes,turn
itbackofffornow.

Step7:
TheRNSdoesnotneedtheonboardpositioningsensor.YouwilldeactivateitusingVCDS
later,butitalsomustbeunplugged.Gotothetrunkandopenitup.Moveallyour
stuff,tools,towels,deadhookers,etc.outofthecubbyboxontherighthandside
(passengersideforNorthAmerica).Thereisanaccesspanelbehindthetaillight.
Removethecover,itishingedontheoutboardsidebuttheother


sidescanbepoppedout.Thereisasmallmoduleabovethetaillight,youcanseeitin
thepicturebelow,Theplugisupandtotherightofthemodule,youcannotseeit,but
itcomesunpluggedprettyeasily.Youwillneedtosqueezetheconnectortounlockit.
Tucktheplugsomeplaceitwillnotrattleandcloseupeverythinginthetrunk.

Step8:
Gobacktothedashandplugintheairbagindicatorandreinstallthetrimpieceby
snappingtheclipsintoplace.Theinstallisalldonenow.Youcanturnontheunit,
enteryourcodeandstartsettingpresets.YoumaynotgetanaccurateGPSfixuntilyou
movethecaroutside.

Step9:
VCDSCoding.Youdonothavetodothis,butyoursystemwillnotbe100%untilyou
doso.IsuggestonlyRossTechVCDSproducts.Don'twasteyourtimewithcheapeBay
junk.IfyouarenotfamiliarwithhowVCDSworks,findsomeonewhois,otherwiseyou
mayreallymessthingsup.
First(andalways)runanautoscanandsaveit.Youwillgetseveralerrors.Thisprocess
tookmeafewtimestogetitallrightandIthinkIhaveallthesteps.

Startinmodule19CanGateway.Usingthelongcodinghelper,activate57Navigation.

Nextdeactivate1Cpositionsensing.

Afteryourcodingchanges,clearallfaultcodes.
Next,goto57Navigation.ChecktheAux/InboxifyouhaveMDI.

YouwillneedtosetupDynaudioifyouhaveit.

YouwillneedtosetupBAP.ThisdisplaysRNSinfoontheMFD.

Beforeyouclick"DoIt!"makesuretheworkshopcodeandimportcodearesomething
otherthanzeros.Youwillseethesesettingsonthescreenwiththebeforeandafter
longcoding.Clearall/anyfaultcodes.
Finally,goto56Radioandclearanyfaultcodes.Nofurtherchangesshouldberequired
onthismodule.
PowerontheRNSandpushthe<and>buttonstogetherwiththesmallbuttononthe
toprightoftheunit.Releasethebuttonsandtheunitshouldreboot.Youalwaysneed
toreboottheRNSaftercodingchanges.
Runanotherautoscan.Youshouldnothaveanyerrorcodesleft.
